  Well, no one said the waiting would be easy...or short.I had hoped I would be called by the surgeon's office with a date. That has not happened, and he will be on holidays next week for a while. In one way, that's good - our family vacation starts next week, too. On the other hand, I had hoped to be well on the road to recovery before vacation.Well, at least life goes on. I am happy.

  I had the pre-admit and the CAT Scan. After a few days I called the surgeons office just to get an idea of the waiting time. I really hoped it wouldn't be too long.The assistant told me that unfortunately there are patients who had their pre-admit 2 months before I did, that are still waiting on surgery. The Operating Room reduces hours during the summer, and with that and vacations to work aroung, it will likely be September before I will have surgery.On July 5 I received a call from the...

  Yay! I still have brusing from my angiogram May 30th, but I'm ready to move on. I find the waiting to be my worst enemy.I have the pre-admit at 9am, where they will do blood tests and send me for an x-ray. Then off to have a CAT scan for 12:30.I was told by the surgeon that it could be up to 5 months after the CAT scan before surgery. Then someone told me if they do a pre-admit, it's usually within 5-10 days for surgery. Next person told me it could be 5 weeks after pre-admit. Today, I was...

  May 30, 2017. I need to be at the hospital by 6:45 - an hour away. Not so bad, considering that I am able to have a light breakfast, including coffee. No dietary restrictions for this one.I did understand that theres always a slight chance for stroke or heart attack doing this procedure, but it's necessary.   Hello,I was diagnosed with Afib in January of this year. Since then, I have had a few other issues and have found out I need to have surgery.I was told by the surgeon that even though I will be having heart surgery to replace my bicuspid valve and my aorta (I have a large aneurysm), the AFIB may still become an issue at a later date.Has anyone in this group had a valve replaced and still have AFib?

  Well, I went to see the original cardiologist, only to find out that I won't be seeing him any longer. The surgeon will be doing my follow up after surgery. He did say though, that he is going to follow my progress.While I was in to see him, I asked him for a "feel good" story to send me home with.   So, I am trying to prepare myself for what is to come without scaring the beegeesies out of myself! At this point I know that I will have my bicuspid valve replaced and my aorta will be replaced as well. I do not qualify for the minimally invasive procedures I have been reading about.I have a follow up appointment with my original cardiologist May 9.   Hello everyone, I see very little activity in this group, and that's a real shame. People like me who are new and looking for some sort of support are looking for help in this group. People who have been in the group a long time have a lot of "experience" to offer. I realize every circumstance is different, and everyone will not have the same diagnosis or prognosis, but just being able to talk about what's going on can be a real stress relief.   One of my best friends birthday and we are meeting another friend to go for a dinner and movie to celebrate (again in the city 45 minutes away). This almost sounds like a repeat...During dinner, my heart started racing. I had just been in the hospital 2 days before (Feb.22nd). I thought, wrongly so it seems, that my heart would slow down, so I ate little and tried to concentrate on the conversation. By the time we left the resturant and headed to the movie I was trying to rationalize my fears....

  I wore the 48 hour halter, and other than a couple of blips on the results, everything seemed fine. I followed up with my doctor and was told there was nothing of concern on the test. However, my blood pressure was showing some high points the last few times I had been in the office, so he added Adalat (20mg) to medications and told me I could increase it if the racing heart continued to be a problem (up to 60mg).
