This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
My best friend and husband of 30 years died unexpectedly in December so I am new to this group. I have found you all to be so very supportive and I want to tell you how much you have helped me (especially between 1 and 6 am when I seem to need you the most). Knowing others are having or have had some of the same emotional moments, breakdowns, etc. that I am having helps ~ not that I want every one to be in pain but you know what I mean, I was wondering if anyone might live nearby. Just curious ~ oh and I live outside the Roanoke/Salem area of Virginia

We have one kid together, she's terrrific, 25 and married and working 2 jobs and going to college - and she has been great support. My wife had a son with her first husband, and after 20 years of being estranged, I asked my daughter to contact him while Arlene was in the ICU. He came and showed Arlene videos of her grandchildren, and now both of her kids are close.
I told a rabbi that it is sad that it took a deathbed scene to bring them together, and he said, "Maybe that was part of the plan."
I live in West New York, NJ, which is right across the river from Manhattan, where I work mostly, a short bus trip away, and it's like living in Queens, except it is quieter and cheaper. Arlene and I lived in Manhattan most of our lives, until we moved across the river to NJ about 15 years ago.
