Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
I have enjoyed the conversation, but, for me, I didn't NEED it to resolve anything, and so maybe it's best left to those who MIGHT need it, you know?
Thanks for your insight. :-)
I'm not going to keep beating a dead horse. I can message Peachy and give her my personal thoughts on prayers.
But, you are so right. Now this discussion has become "critical". Now there is judging one person's behavior because it is not what someone else calls "being a Christian."...I don't think that's what it started out as...
Because I don't read the Bible does not make me any less a Christian than the next one. That's my belief. And I don't consider it a contradiction of any sort.
When someone asks me if I believe in God, yes I do. And I believe in prayer. Period. I don't have to measure up to any other person's standards. That's what I don't like about talking about God with some people. I go forth and speak the word of God by answering as I do, "yes, I believe in God and the power of prayer". There. I spread the word. And that's as far as I will go. I respect everyone's beliefs, no matter what. And I would never say whether one is better or holier or more Christian than the other. That's up to God in the end.
I agree Montgomery, if we just let everyone believe as they wish and we just focused on being good people ourselves, by example we spread the word, no?
Well, I'm done with this discussion. It's just getting repetitive, on my part anyway. Love and peace to all..xo
I have read the Bible daily since I was 18 and I'm now 66. I have also read many of the arguments that cast doubt on this amazing book, such as those you expressed in point two, such as the church doctoring it. I wish everyone could read the very cogent counter arguments that show the amazing unity and consistency of the 66 books in the Bible. This is all the more amazing when you realize that the books of the Bible are written by some 40 authors over a period of 1500 years. How could such diverse authors from different cultures and different centuries be on the same page? I'd be happy to give documentation. See my journal, Meanwhile let me say that over the years I've found the Bible guiding me, correcting me, encouraging me. Since PD hit me a Bible passage that speaks of God proving his strength in my weakness has been comforting. I've often sensed his extra strength being infused into me when I'm experiencing weakness.
So much more could be said. But above all let me say I hope the very best for you... and for all who have entered this conversation.

well wow I opened this one up and read through all the replies and wanted to join in..I believe it is human to question our faith and it is healthy too.
I believe in God totally, I believe in the bible as the word of God, and I believe that Jesus did die for all of us and that through him we will get to heaven.
Religion is such a personal thing in many ways. I was raised in a religion to where often guilt was used...to this day it still is used...I find myself often questioning the very religion I was brought up in; therefore I am very much more comfortable with calling myself a Christian and following what the bible has laid out for us.
I believe that God does allow bad things to happen to us, that is where free will comes in. Who is to say that lifestyles we have engaged in have not effected our health? I did recreational drugs as a kid...I am now 50.. am I paying the price for those choices now? Who knows!
I believe that Christ suffers right along side of us, I don't for a second believe he finds any joy in watching us suffer, why the bible itself tells us the night before he was taken away to be crucified he bled drops of blood as he prayed to his Father about what was ahead of him...
I have experienced in many ways the love of God in my lifetime I have witnessed his many miracles...a child growing within my womb, my husband living through a two story fall into concrete and being able to tell you about it...a flower newly bloomed, a rainbow in the sky...all wonders of a power greater than any of us can imagine.
I am glad that you put your post out there, wow look at all the folks that have viewed and commented on it! I would be a liar if I sat here and said I am not terrified of what lies ahead for me. I have recently been dx with MSA I have cried many a tears over this dx. Does it mean I don't believe, not at all, does it mean I don't have faith, not at all...I am scared to death...of dying...I believe in Christ and I believe in heaven and I believe we all were not meant to be here on earth forever...but I want things to go my way... I am not ready to have this debilitating disease...I want to live, I want to watch my children have children and their children have children, I want to grow old with my husband..I am human and in my humanness lies my fears....
but this is out of my hands and in a higher hand...that is where faith comes into play for me...I have faith that there is God and that he has created me, he knows me better than my own mother who gave birth to me knows me, and he loves me unconditionally, from my bad eating habits to my hot Italian/German temper that flairs at times....
Faith for me is where I put it all. Faith is what gets me through the day in spite of my fears...faith in believing that Christ is right next to me on this path of life every step of the way. Faith that he loves me even though at times I have doubted he was listening...Faith that yes there is a heaven because Christ told us so....
I hope you have a great day and sending a hug to you! b'nana

PEACHY MY FRIEND LIFE IS A BOX OF CHOCOLATES YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO GET. I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU HAVE YOUR OPINNIONS AS YOU DO ABOUT THE BIBLE, IS THE SCHOOL SYSTEM STILL TEACHING FROM THE BIBLE'''YIKES I CAN ONLY INVISION THE INTERPATATION YOU WHERE GIVEN. MAY I ASK HOW LONG DID YOU STUDY WITH THE JEHOVHA'S WITNESSES?
Firelady no disrespect, but i l have heard the words before, never discuss religion or politics for fear of offending. I never have, and never would take offence at anyones opinions, nor do l hope they take offence of mine. But all things , especially religion and politics, most definately be discussed,
With mature people, with mature views. I have always appreciated opinions different from mine, that gives me reason to think and reason to re think
Busgirl, i asked for education , you offered me that , and l have just been so busy, not on my computer, which is the only reason why , so i will contact you via this site. I have been away for a while
Pddaughter, you are always so grounded and non judgemental also so kind , you my dear keep me focused!! When i have my moments of freaking out, you always pick me back up.
I love all the opinions, l have learned quite a lot.
And Oh dear for the opinion that pd was a gift ! Pd is not a gift, pd might have opened your eyes, and have given you greater appreciation of what human compassion is. This is what we all should have for eachother anyway,,,, BUT healthy people do not understand,,, because the majority of healthy people just dont understand what people with disabilities go through... Wow l did not think about disabilities when l was healthy ...BUT PD Not a gift dear jaaner, It is total Crap!!!
Dougweeks, l would love to know more about what you say, reading the bible since age 18 and now 66,,, but yes the bible was still doctored.
What about the Catholic church now, trying to or making judas a saint? What about the church changing their minds about this disciple. Telling us now that he was possibly the most closest to jesus, and knew he had to betray him... does this show that the bible is just something that can be continually changed to suit , the times , and possibly not accurate??
Yes i know about the dead sea scrolls, yes i know also that a lot of this documentation has also been lost, changed , altered, and ignored.. Wouldnt it be great to know the whole truth
Blessing and love and prayers to all, beleiver or not.
