Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement. The primary symptoms of Parkinsons are due to excessive muscle contraction, normally caused by the insufficient formation and action of dopamine, which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the...
I don't have any bible quotes for you, I'm not going to promise you that I'll pray for your agnostic soul..(lol)...everyone is free to believe(or not) in whatever or whomever they want, it's okay with me.
Having believed in God for all of my life, I just don't know what I would do without that belief. I don't live for the hereafter, I believe for today. I don't believe in God because I think it's my key to heaven, I believe in God because I FEEL it's my key to this life. My belief gives me strength when I am thrown into a flight/fight situation, when I thought I couldn't make it on my own, when I felt totally alone and desperate. My God either got me through it, or gave me the strength to get through it.
As for the Original Sin, ..I don't believe everything I read, I don't follow like cattle, but I do believe in a God. In my opinion, nothing in this universe was created and perfected by a big bang...I can't explain it, and someday I'll find out for sure, one way or the other. There are alot of things I can't explain in life..it's okay,I still choose to believe in them. xo

How Can I Really Know if God Loves Me?
By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services
Q: I'd like to think God loves us (which you often say in your column), but how can I really know? I didn't grow up in a very loving home, and I've always struggled with the feeling I wasn't worthy of God's love. -- K.W.
A: The older I get the more I'm struck by how our childhood experiences mold us -- sometimes in bad ways that make it hard for us to accept what God has said. Our emotions get in the way, and we end up believing them instead of God's Word. The only way out is to trust God's promises instead of the lies our emotions try to tell us.
Yes, it's a staggering truth: God loves us, in spite of the fact that we are sinners who deserve only His judgment. And the ultimate proof of God's love is that He sent His Son into the world to save us. The Bible says, "This how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him" (1 John 4:9). Memorize that verse, and quote it to yourself every time you wonder if God loves you.
It's easy, I know, for us to doubt God's love. A personal tragedy, the unexpected death of a loved one, a devastating illness, a broken marriage, the loss of a job ... almost any reversal can make us wonder if God really cares.
But He does care -- and the proof is Jesus, who willingly left heaven's glory to die for us. If you had been the only person on earth who needed to be saved, He still would have died for you. Thank Him for His love, and keep your eyes on Him whenever doubts come.
God Bless,
Lee
To everyone else, I started reading this discussion cautiously, expecting to find all sorts of nasty words mingled with fervent prayer for the lost. I am pleased that I didn't find that. I am a Christian, my husband is a card-carrying cynic and agnostic. He finds many bad things in our world that seem to be related to or caused by "god", and I can't disagree with him. I just keep showing him MY vision of God and Love and Spiritual things, and hope he understands.
I appreciate and accept all views on this, and I think Peachy is real brave sticking her neck out.
Great post Peachy. ;-))
My husband says that "religious people" focus on the afterlife to the detriment of real life. I counter that I consider myself one of those people, but my focus is on being the best person I can possibly be in THIS life, not because I have to in order to go to heaven, but because it is the RIGHT thing to do. There are many Christians who feel the same way and are able to do good for the sake of doing good.
Believing in God gives me hope and calms me. It gives me strength to get through THIS life. When I feel alone or in despair, I turn to God, to ask him for help, for strength. When I feel as though I've had a good day, or the sun is shining or I've had a great time with my grandkids and the sun is glowing, I remember to thank God. On Sunday mornings, rather than sleep in, I go to mass and turn to God, to sing to Him, to thank Him.
I can tell your grandfather that God doesn't give kids cancer, something in our world, something in our environment gives us cancer. Granted, we don't purposely get it, but I don't believe God points someone out and gives it to them, there are many scientific reasons for these diseases. So many we don't even know yet.
I don't quote from the Bible. I don't read the Bible. I don't like to be preached to, so I don't preach. My beliefs are mine, between me and my God. The thing I learned many years ago in Catholic school, (yes, uniforms and all) is that God gave us all a Free Will. We are individually responsible for each step and each decision we make. God doesn't make us do anything or stop us from doing anything.
God gave us brains and the capabilities to find cures for these diseases, and to invent wonderful items to help us in this life. What we do with these bodies and brains is entirely up to us. We are born, the buck starts and stops there, in my opinion.
Bottom line is I totally believe in prayer, it gives me strength.
Busgirl,, i would love to hear how god personally proved his existance to you. WOW HOW???
Be it god or no God, im not going to hell l know that, as if there is truely a god, he will look into my heart, and know , well i dont belong in Hell
Yes Melody your right, prayer gives you strength, i do pray and it give me strength, but at the same time it also leave me feeling very alone

Long live the discussion
It probably is important to address the "foundation" of this site, so that people aren't misled...
I have my HOPE in my God who created me and all things. Why is that offensive to you?
