Do you take supplements? If so, what are they for? Share you healthy helpful hints with others and list the supplement, the dose, and give a brief explanation of what the supplement is for. I would find it very interesting to see what folks are doing out there with supplements.
I take Alpha Lipoic Acid (200 mg) + Acetyl L-carnitine (1,000 mg) for fatigue. I don't find that it is working at all, though others say it is suppose to be fantastic. Been on for 1+ month.
I also take D3, 5,000 IU's daily. The doseage is an individual thing and should be worked out with your doctor after a blood test.
How about you?

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

If your car is full of fuel (aka ATP in your body) but you have no radiator fluid then your engine can't get cool and will blow. YOU need ATP and many may be low because nerve transmission is repeated so many more times in a person with damaged nerves (ie myelin in MS). However, if you are also low in things like calcium ( need magnesium, fats, Vitamin D3 to absorb calcium), & potassium used for the nerve conduction they they become the limiting reagent and keep you from functioning. Work with your doctor for blood tests to increase your limiting reagent and thus improve some of your symptoms.
Am I explaining myself in a way you understand...hope so.
Anyway Acetyl Co Enzyme A, CoEnzyme 10, R-ALA, Acetyl L-carnitine are some of the things that help my hubby with energy. This does not mean he has all the energy he wants (being back to normal ie without MS is what he wants) but it has helped him.
Best wishes,
EP
PS Vitamin D3 should be taken with fats so it can be absorbed and your HDL (good fats) levels have to be higher to store this vitamin.
Calcium 1200mg
Vitamin D 400IU
Vitamin D3 5,000IU
Magnesium Asporotate 600mg
Turmeric
Low dose asprin
Probiotics..in the process of changing exact ones and exact doses
Vitamin C 1000
And one multi-vitamin
I find that all of these together have been fairly helpful. I had been also taking a probiotic "cleanse" mixture as well, but I may just change the probiotics and see if I can get the same result. I also just fininshed reading about the exact probiotic that may affect serotonin levels and one that may target the pain that IBS and other stomach issues cause, so I would like to get higher amounts of these into my plan.

On waking, I take
C - 1200 mg
Probiotics - 1 Serving
With my shake, I get antioxidants in blueberries or strawberries, plus almonds and walnuts nuts, 2 oz almond milk and 2 oz water (cuz it cuts down on the sugar that way) and 6 tbsp unsweet cocoa.
After this, more supplements:
1/2 a multi vitamin
D3 - 10,000 IU
Turmeric / Super Curcumin - 800 mg
Ubiquinol - 100 mg (a more readily absorbable Co-Q-10 for those of us over 40)
Fish Oil - 2,000 mg
Vitamin E - 1,000 IU
2 hours later:
Sublingual B12
B Complex
Brewer's Yeast - Full of B's and essential acids, etc.
About 2 hours later: Magnesium Citrate- 400 mg
Mid Afternoon: Magnesium Citrate- 400 mg
Around Dinner: Other half of Multi Vitamin
Bed Time: Magnesium Citrate - 400 mg
(I take ibuprofen with dinner on shot day - and if I'm working out a lotk, at lunch too. :)
This probably sounds like an awful lot and I can't always afford it all - this month I ran out of ubiquinol for a couple of days before I got back out to get some more.
I did my own research on cocoa when I learned that "cocao" is a superfood and it's basically cocoa - it helps me feel really good and alert! I buy it every week now!
Mutl vitamin - with vit A, B, D, E, etc.
Calcium - 500mg + 125mg D
D3 - upping from 2000 units to 4000 units plus sunshine
Fish Oil - 360 EPA 220 DHA
Evening Primrose Oil - 500 mg.
Got some ideas from the book by the woman in England written over 10 years ago and she was doing great.
Try to eat a lot of greens, organic greens, veggies, fruits to get as much vitamins and minerals naturally and locally as I can to add to the mix.
Went to my neuro doc yesterday and I showed him my numbers for all the tests done in June (such as Vit D level) and he told me not to follow the other doc re my Vit D. She (regular doc) had told me that I did not need more than 2000 units since my D level was 49 ng/mL. But my neuro doc says that he likes to get from 50-60 levels. (BTW, I think he said that over 100 level is dangerous).
Neuro doc says that the other docs do not understand that we MS-ers need a therapeutic level of D. So therefore, I need 4000 units daily, not the 2000 units that regular doc told me. 2000 units is for a "normal" person. So in regards to vitamin D, take the advice from your neuro doc, if he specialized in MS. He doesn't say much else on the other vitamins but he knows about all of them.
B12- methylcobalimin sublingual tablets- 5mcg
pumpkin seed oil- 2 pills wth each meal

magnesium- not daily as I took a whole pill once and had some stomach issues

Recently I've started taking Iadoral, an iodine supplement- 12.5 mg a day. I dont' use iodized salt. I should get tested but they have to give you a big dose, then check your urine 24 hrs later and I keep forgetting to set that up before my appointments
I also take a thyroid half grain, whatever that is, and Isocort, an herbal adrenal support pill.
And that's my breakfast.
Oh, I take 5 mg ferritin as iron was slightly low. Ran out and tried taking whatever Costco sold. Made me really sick and I tossed all hte pills I had just taken. So I'll be getting the milder stuff when I go to the naturopath in two weeks.
