FDA Wants to Ban Vitamins D, A, B , C

Do you take your daily multi, or at least make it an intention? That option might become a lot more complicated in the near future.
The FDA, which regulates foods and drugs in the US, has turned its focus on nutritional supplements and its proposed criteria will leave very few supplements standing.
Heres what could go down:
1. Under these new guidelines, Vitamin A, B complex, C, and D, as well as CoQ 10, would be outlawed.
2. The FDA will require that supplement manufacturers fund prohibitively expensive studies using doses multiplied by a safety factor of as high as 2,000 times the recommended dose. For instance, the FDA is proposing that two species of animals, rodents and young dogs, will be forced to ingest 2.4 million milligrams of fish oil per day, for 90 days. Humans take 2,400 milligrams daily and we weigh 10 times as much as small dogs. In addition to these inhumane practices, this requirement will destroy most supplement companies (except those secretly owned by pharmaceutical manufacturers). continued at

We got until September 30th before this goes before congress. Do what people did in 1994. Speak out, fax, call, write, email. We have the power.

I posted this on another site with people saying well even if they did do that your doctor could get you the vitamins. Yes, synthetic and toxic. I have MS and Osteoporosis well it now Osteopenia due to bio-identical progesterone cream not the Fosamax that is being sued.
If this goes through how will it affect MS patients? Faster disability and earlier death. Drugs can only due so much. It the food is our medicine and let medicine be our food.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

* Less availability for those who can't afford insurance
* More power for the pharmaceutical companies
I could go on but I'm just waking up. ;)

So there it is all about money and the pharmaceuticals want in on it. I am glad that everyone is writing. I will do as well, but I am sure that I will get the same form letter answer. But at least we have got to inform out politicians. I am glad that there are a lot of activists.
But as far as regulation goes, I am totally into regulating fracking and oil drilling, so I am not against regulation. Free enterprise doesn't always work for the innocent so I do not think that being against regulation for its own sake is the answer. I just don't want Big Pharma in on the vitamins. But I would like some standardization.
And I strongly believe that vitamin D has helped me through the years.
We need less regulation in regard to nutritional supplements. The FDA has not risen to the task of bringing new drugs to market, how can one expect they can handle supplements which will not receive the monetary backing of the big drug companies. Who is going to research and prove to the FDA that vitamins C supplements can be beneficial. Does Congress really think that the voters are so stupid they need this protection? If that is the case, I think they are too stupid to vote.

Thank you for contacting me regarding the regulation of dietary and nutritional supplements. I appreciate the opportunity to respond.
As you know during this Congress, there have been numerous pieces of legislation aimed at increasing the FDA's regulation of dietary and nutritional supplements. Millions of Americans take dietary supplements daily without any harmful effects. Many of these supplements provide consumers with significant health benefits and help enhance the quality of their lives.
In 1994, Congress passed the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), which requires manufacturers to submit adequate information as to the safety of any new ingredients contained in dietary supplements. Any claims made on labels, packaging and other accompanying material must be truthful and non-misleading before the product can be sold. This bill also created an office in the National Institute of Health to coordinate research on dietary supplements.
Legislation has been introduced to give the FDA regulatory authority over dietary supplements. In light of the fact that the FDA is having a hard time satisfying their core mission of approving drugs and medical devices that saves lives, these added responsibilities may overburden the agency. All of these bills are still pending before Congress.
I will work for common sense solutions to meet the dietary supplement needs of all Americans while maintaining safety standards that we need in the United States. Again, thank you for taking the time to contact my office. Please know that I will continue to work for my fellow Missourians in the legislative matters I am able to address.
It is a privilege to represent you and I hope that you will not hesitate to contact me regarding any matter where I might be of assistance.
