FDA Wants to Ban Vitamins D, A, B , C
tiredbunni
Do you take your daily multi, or at least make it an intention? That option might become a lot more complicated in the near future.
The FDA, which regulates foods and drugs in the US, has turned its focus on nutritional supplements and its proposed criteria will leave very few supplements standing.
Heres what could go down:
1. Under these new guidelines, Vitamin A, B complex, C, and D, as well as CoQ 10, would be outlawed.
2. The FDA will require that supplement manufacturers fund prohibitively expensive studies using doses multiplied by a safety factor of as high as 2,000 times the recommended dose. For instance, the FDA is proposing that two species of animals, rodents and young dogs, will be forced to ingest 2.4 million milligrams of fish oil per day, for 90 days. Humans take 2,400 milligrams daily and we weigh 10 times as much as small dogs. In addition to these inhumane practices, this requirement will destroy most supplement companies (except those secretly owned by pharmaceutical manufacturers). continued at

We got until September 30th before this goes before congress. Do what people did in 1994. Speak out, fax, call, write, email. We have the power.

I posted this on another site with people saying well even if they did do that your doctor could get you the vitamins. Yes, synthetic and toxic. I have MS and Osteoporosis well it now Osteopenia due to bio-identical progesterone cream not the Fosamax that is being sued.
If this goes through how will it affect MS patients? Faster disability and earlier death. Drugs can only due so much. It the food is our medicine and let medicine be our food.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

I agree to a certain point. Read the end of my Reply #9.
The FDA ALREADY has the authority to prosecute for fraud like the one example I mention. They do not need any additional powers as they can not handle the ones they have responsibly, in my opinion.
Best wishes,

Anyone watch the movie Food, Inc. I bet EP has. You never want to eat food again. The FDA watching food for containments is laughable. The way animals are treated and killed. ewww ...we are being poisoned by FDA with their GMO which is in everything. Monsanto is known for Weed Rid something like that (strong weed killer). They used it to genetically alter our food like corn. Corn being resistant to bugs. They feed the corn to all animals. We eat those animal with this alter corn. And corn is in everything, corn fructose syrup. '
One thing Europe is saying is No to Monsanto & GMO and we need to join them. We do have the power. We choose not to buy from the store but farmers market. Watch the movie and think about how many more people are getting cancers, diseases and sick.
Thank you all for signing.
Dear Mrs Rowe
Thank you for contacting me in opposition to S. 1310, the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act of 2011. Like you, I believe that consumers should have access to safe and effective dietary supplements.
As you know, the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act would amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to more effectively regulate dietary supplements that may pose safety risks unknown to consumers. This bill would require dietary supplement manufacturers to register products with the Food and Drug Administration and require product labels to include warnings associated with adverse events of specific ingredients, weight of those ingredients per serving, and a batch number for easier recall. Finally, this legislation would also direct the FDA to establish a definition of conventional food to clarify the distinction between food and beverage products with additives and dietary supplements.
I believe that the FDA has a legitimate role to play in acting as an honest broker of consumer information; consumers have a right to all available, truthful information regarding products available in the marketplace. The legislation would not discourage the use or sale of supplements; it would merely help to ensure that fully-informed consumers are purchasing safe products and give the FDA the ability to remove any harmful dietary supplements from the market. It is important all Americans have access to safe dietary supplements, as is the case with any other processed food products they consume.
Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) introduced this legislation on June 30, 2011. The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions where it awaits further consideration. While I am not a member of this committee, please be assured I will monitor this bill closely as it moves through the Senate.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can ever be of assistance to you on this or any other matter.
Sincerely,
Charles E. Schumer
United States Senator
The FDA is trying to say they have the safety of the consumer at stake. Well why don't they concentrate on all the prescriptions that are killing people as they push they out without very little testing.Or what the FDA is up to with our food (GMO). You be surprised and it isn't in our best interest.
Thank you again for signing the petition.
Hugs, Bunni
Thank you for contacting me about the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) policy regarding dietary supplements. I appreciate hearing from you.
In July 2011 the FDA issued draft guidance for the public to comment on regarding safety notifications for dietary supplement ingredients. This guidance has not taken effect yet, as the comment period is open until October 3, 2011, at which time it is possible the FDA may revise it. Please know I believe government too often stands in the way by overregulating businesses and industries, and I appreciate your concerns about how this could affect your access to dietary supplements should this guidance be implemented. Should legislation on the FDA's dietary supplement ingredients be considered in the 112th Congress, I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind.
Thank you again for contacting me, and please do not hesitate to do so in the future. It is an honor to serve you and the Fourth Congressional District.
They will listen if we make enough noise. We got to stop believing we are powerless as that is what big pharma and FDA want us to believe. We can change the outcome. Thank you.

This is a false internet rumor.
Anytime something looks suspicious, I go to snopes.com to verify/refute the information.
Back to the point though, I thought we were doing a good job discerning which vitamins and supplements were healthy. We learn this stuff as we go. I do not trust the FDA to make my decisions fo rme. And I agree with the post that pharmaceuticals kill more individuals than any vitamin or supplement.
Anyway, Senator Rubio sent me a response with a link to the FDA:
Dear Ms. Morris,
Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding dietary supplements. I understand there are currently many important issues concerning dietary supplements, and I appreciate hearing your thoughts.
On June 30, 2011, Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) introduced the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act of 2011 (S. 1310) in the U.S. Senate. This legislation is intended to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require manufacturers of dietary supplements to register dietary supplement products with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This legislation has been referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions while awaiting further action.
The FDA recently issued draft guidance for industry labeled "Dietary Supplements: New Dietary Ingredient Notifications and Related Issues." It has been expressed to me that these proposed rules may give the FDA an unprecedented authority in the approval process of new and existing dietary supplements, and may also prevent new dietary supplements from being created and produced entirely. For these reasons, I have sent a letter to FDA Commissioner Hamburg asking her to thoroughly review and evaluate all comments received relating to the draft guidance regarding new dietary ingredient notifications. I would like to encourage you to visit www.regulations.gov where you can submit your comments to the FDA on the draft guidance for industry, "Dietary Supplements: New Dietary Ingredient Notifications and Related Issues" (FDA-2011-D-0376-0001).
Although I do not serve on the committee of jurisdiction for the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act of 2011, I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind should this bill come before the Senate for a vote. Again, thank you for contacting me about dietary supplements, I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind should any further legislation arise surrounding this issue, and I look forward to hearing any thoughts or input you wish to share in the future.
Reply #10, 23, 25, 28 All show different representatives responses to current legislation in regards to vitamins. I am not sure what Snopes is reporting about. However, there is current legislation looking to give FDA MORE powers which includes over vitamins. This is TRUE.
I am going to copy and paste a page below. If you would like to look it over you may do so. This page was written by a VITAMIN company & I want to state that up front. Many of the people that help run the company are DOCTORS. I feel you should know this in the same way that if I was giving you info from a page that made money from the pharmaceuticals you should know that too.

I ask you to read the page over. Then go read up on more info at other sites to get a bigger picture. IF...IF you feel passionately about this legislation (one way or the other) you can contact your representatives. ie places like http://lef.www.capwiz.com/lef/directory/congdir.tt?alertid=51641606&type=CO

My vitamin D level was at 11 and now it is at 28 after 3 years of "treatment" and god only knows how many painful blood draws (veins are shot after the hospitalization in 2009/2010 -- thanks a lot incompetent doctors and nurses!).
I'm sick of this vitamin D thing and I've noticed no positive effect from taking this.
If they outlaw vitamins, will they outlaw prescription vitamins too?
