Just a quick update. The doctors have him on a breathing ventilator because the valve to his heart is hardening, which could cause a heart-attack. If the ventilator can help to open his lungs back up to where he can breathe normally they will take it out and let him come home within a few days, but if not the doctors have started talking about other options.
Please just continue to pray, his face lit up today and he was cracking jokes, just like the happy man I've always known. This group is amazing!
Update: He was brought into the hospital last Monday because he was coughing, and sleepy, etc. The doctors said he had pneumonia, which he then had to be taken down to North Memorial because he has COPD and has to go through dialysis.
Once he was there the doctors did a few tests on him and that is when they realized the valve to his heart was hardening. The breathing ventilator was put in so that it would open his lungs back up from the pneumonia.
As of today, doctors are going to try and suck some of the gunk out of his lungs to see if that helps him breathe better. If this doesn't work then there is nothing else that can be done besides to keep him comfortable. I'm still very grateful for all the prayers, you guys are the best.
That being said, I taught a 110 lb Rottweiler how to swim today who is afraid of the water. :) so proud of him, of his owner, and myself. Boy am I gonna be sore tomorrow though.
