Nathan, I met my guy while volunteering for my church at a prison not far from my city. I knew that he wasn't there for stealing girl scout cookies, but as I began to know him personally, I saw in him a lot of the qualities that made me take a second look and a third. We became friends and then when he was transferred to a different prison, he called me, and after months of calls and correspondence, we decided to become a couple.

Later, when I asked him what his crime was, he told me that he thought I already knew - that he was convicted of a sex offense, but that it was a false charge. He told he that he wouldn't blame me if I wanted to walk out and never look back, but by that time, we'd become close and I believed the goodness that I'd seen in him. We're going to get married when he gets out.

Since I have young children, I'd say no. Nothing is worth risking losing them. If I didn't have children it would be probably be a different answer.

I believe in second chances, and judging a person less by their past and more so on how they treat me. So yeah, I probably would (I'm married so the point's moot) It would all depend on what other things factored in

It you would have asked me this 4 years ago, I would have told you no way. I was not as understanding and thought all sex offenders were the same and did not know there was a difference between a sex offender and a pedophile. I then met my husband and went through the whole process with him. He is a great guy, just made one dumb mistake by not asking the girl her age. Since then, I have met many other sex offenders who were in the same situation and were really great guys. I had always pictured myself marrying a doctor or lawyer and having the fairy tale life lol. But even though we have been through so much hardship with finding a place to live, going through probation, and finding a job for him, I wouldn't trade him for the world as I am very lucky to have him in my life.

Faereydark, I too believe in second chances, but sadly if I didn't know Hub before his conviction, and truly KNOW him, I wouldn't have stuck around as I believed the lies the media fed me - that those convicted of. Sex crime will reoffend over and over again.
I know believe that anyone can be rehabilitated. Those that want to change, should be given the opportunity and support to turn their life around.

Absolutely, the crime does not define the person. I met a RSO and he told me very soon, but he already had set my heart on fire. And I don't regret it at all...can't wait to spend a life time with him. He is the best man I have ever met. Unfortunately the media has played big time on sex offense misinforming society and pushing standards on the public, and it is such a shame. The laws that surround SO are crazy and feel to me wrong and unconstitutional, discriminating.

Hello all. I am so glad I found a site with like minded people. I'm dating a SO. I have found it very hard as most people don't take a chance to get to know him. We are lucky that after 2 years my family has accepted him and has helped make him feel part of the family. Our only struggle is his ex wife who attempts to ruin his life every chance she gets. I understand why she is angry but seriously what she's doing is hurting him, me am their kids. Worst of all no one in this state is willing to help him unless he has a min $5,000 upfront because of his crime. It's hard to see how people shun him without getting to know him.

My husband was arrested in an online sting operation, which was the first operation that county had ever done. He responded to a Craigslist ad. Way more to the story, but out of the 48 men arrested in that sting, his face was the only one who should up on the National Nightly News. I met him 4 months after the initial arrest. I was going back and forth between Florida and Kentucky for awhile, and on our 2nd date, he told me everything. He said that he needed to let me know upfront before his feelings became stronger for me, and if I wanted to get up and walk away after telling me I could.

I was raised to never judge, as that is only God's job. He was a super nice guy, so different than my ex husband and some of the jerks I had dated in the past. So, I gave him a chance and he won my heart in no time. He is definitely the BEST thing that has ever happened to me and the BEST man I have ever had in my life besides my Dad.

We were married in July of this year. I really do believe that God had brought him to me, and I am so grateful and blessed that HE did!

He was recently sentenced to 2 years, and this initial phase has been really emotional and hard, but we are strong and I stand by his side PROUDLY! In his situation, the Judge did not charge him as a SO, and stated that he will not have to register when he gets out. But, even if he would have had to register, I would have proudly held my head high, because he is an AMAZING man that makes my heart melt and I am a better person for meeting him.

Been some time sense I posted on this topic but I will say I have found me a great girl where not serious yet but we have been out on a few dates and she knows of my past I didn't tell her she found out on her own and even told me that my past was my past and she didn't care about it so will say I hope I can hold on to her
