Please forgive me if this is ignorant. I am still navigating my emotions and learning about my past traumas. I find that for some reason I struggle to be alone. I won't force myself to be in bad company but I do find that I will put up with things that I know that I shouldn't to have someone around. Today I am forced to be alone. My on/off partner that I'm dating is busy and so are my "sometimes" friends. I decided to try a bar out that I love but I'm alone today. I don't feel weird or uncomfortable but I am questioning why I don't accept this solitude more often. I understand the anxiety of loneliness but I do have moment of enjoying my own company but my anxiety will get so bad I will purposely look for people to cling onto. When I'm with someone I hate it and feel like I should be alone (especially since I am navigating a divorce) and when I am alone I feel like I have no one and I'm miserable. I'm stuck in a vicious cycle with myself that I pray at night to come out of.

It's been some time since my last post...sorry. I've been going through a challenging time with the sale of my home, purchase of a condo and my adult asperger son that lives with me. I've had days where I couldn't get out of bed, days where I stayed in my pj's and days where all I managed to do was eat, drink fluids and take care of my Sweet Mia kitty. Sweet Mia came to me from a shelter about...

If I come to DS and it won't do anything when I click "Login", I go to a post, click and then click "Leave a Reply". Then it will let me log in.Of course, sometimes DS just goes to "Error 504". Then I can't log in.

My experience in coming to love being alone with myself has hinged upon the walks I take. I love to hike in the woods and walk country roads. The chatter in my mind gets quiet and I get the opportunity to know myself a little better.
Yoga and meditation are great too if you don’t have a good place to walk or if it’s difficult. I do all levels of yoga depending on how my body feels.
I am learning different breath work techniques and have found that it eliminates anxiety and brings a wholeness to my life.
It takes time to become our own best friend. Be patient and gentle with yourself.
When I'm alone, I tend to question myself and my life more often...just remember that getting down on yourself does no good...Mistakes Are Learning Lessons and look for solutions.
I totally agree with FAN, in getting outside, fresh air, exercise is the best way to prevent depression and feeling stuck as there is so much to use all your senses to fill you up...do that a lot, give to yourself, it's not selfish, it's Self Care. Get good sleep, and drink water...all will help with depression and anxiety.
As for negative people in your life, let them go or spend as little time with them as possible because you need to focus on living your own life and being responsible for your mental and physical health First.
Best to you...be gentle with yourself, it's the holiday season and emotions can be higher....I have two words I use adapt and accept to what comes my way depending on if I can change a situation or not.
Peace and Healing to you as you start your journey towards healing <3
For many people it's hard to imagine how alone time can be beneficial. Meditation or personal reflection when we are alone can help you identify what you are avoiding by constantly surrounding yourself with others. I am always amazed at how meditation helps me to learn about myself, the reasons why I feel a particular feeling and sometimes I am able to discover solutions for my difficulties simply because I have taken the time to ponder them.
I agree that when we are alone, we are often faced with the emotions we need to work through within us. I am going to suggest considering a good psychological assessment for the anxiety and the overwhelming need to be with other people. If you can do it, examine why you feel this overwhelming need to cling to people. Where does this stem from? What are you feeling, name your feelings. Consider starting a pen to paper journal where every evening you write out your feelings. Get a list of feeling words on the internet if you can't name them. Examine why you feel like you can't be alone. Because you are worth doing this hard work on yourself. You matter.

I agree with MLR that you might be having trouble adjusting from always being around someone (married) to being alone (divorced). First I suggest talking to a divorce counselor or at least find a support group for divorcee's. Second, i suggest getting a pet. Recognizing that you shouldn't be clinging to bad company is a good start. Keep us in the loop, ok?
