Dee, we certainly think alike !

I've wondered about this issue myself...it's not like other members are going to be able to track us down !

The ones that REALLY get to me , are the people who talk about having no friends and who are lonely....and then have Private Profiles !

I also really don't like getting Friends requests from someone who's Profile is set to Private.

To soften the tone a bit

I have had episodes of paranoia, and the thought of putting my name ( even a screen name ) would have been really hard for me to do

Some people here have been stalked or are afraid of there identity being discovered by people that know them

Stalked....REALLY? Well then shouldnt that member, the one who is doing the stalking be banned???

Your profile is private ?

Some here have been hiding from stalkers Dee or people in their lives that have hurt them and don't want their identity out in the open until they're comfortable knowing new people...and may still want to keep their profiles private..
I used to have a private profile for a similar reason at one time
It's important that DS is a safe place for us to hang our hats
This is one reason I know of... They're more comfortable knowing they have privacy..
I'm sure there are more reasons as well

because there are members that trigger the crap outa' me, and putting myself on private at least ensures i don't have to receive hugs/ friend requests/ messages from them.

i wish the ignore system completely removed them from `sight', but it doesn't.

OK Mojo, now that is something i can at least understand....put youve been here for ever, like myself, what about the new people, they dont know anyone. it doesnt make sense to me....

I'm not sure about new members reasons unless they're returning members or again are hiding from someone that they think can track them down via computer..

i just became active again after working for 2 1/2 years. my profile has been private all this time because my husband used to have a screen name on here. out of respect for each of our privacies to have a place to vent, we were both private. does no good to bitch about something here that hubby did when he can read it

well, you answered your own question

anyone who's brand new to DS, and the first thing they do is change their profile to private........well, they ain't new.

took me 4-5 months to figure out i can set my profile to `DS members only'

hehehe. but i'm a moron.

haven't ever thought about this, hmmm. but there is a reason to be concerned about data mining, privacy on net?

& some of us are a tad paranoid?

It's the several profiles by the same member that ends up talking to and answering themselves that freaks me out..haha
