Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

In 2013 I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. About a month ago my psychiatrist put me on an ant-depressant to help with suicidal thoughts. About two weeks ago the medication put me into a manic state. I let my therapist and pdoc know I was shoplifting and displaying manic symptoms. They adjusted my meds. The manic behavior didn't subside and I called my pdoc Wed and Fri telling her my behavior still wan't under control. She said she could see me next Friday.
Yesterday I shoplifted three times at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I went on a rampage out of nowhere. The first time I put a blanket and two pillows in a cart and just walked out with the signals going off. I went back hours later and took two drapes and walked and the signals went off. Reality sets in. I feel ashamed and terrible. I sit in my car and go over what I have done. I can't return the items now I feel. I go back in 30 minutes later and decide to pay for the items myself and discard later what I stole. Somehow in my demented this mind make sense.
I go back to the drape aisle and get some help and then am reaching for drapes when security comes up. She says she has me on video walking out with two drapes. I say it wan't me. Before I went back in I had taken off my long sleeved shirt and just had an undershirt- it was a hot day and I had been in my car stewing with she. She said since I had a different shirt on they couldn't be for sure.
I told her I was mortified at the situation and I would like to pay for the drapes in hand with me. I go to the check out counter and she asks for my name and phone number. I give her my name, but false number. I did pay with a debit card so it won't be difficult to find me. They didn't take me to a back room, have me admit guilt, call the cops, take down my license.
I am so ashamed. All I can think of is the cops bursting down my door. I can't get off the sofa. Thank God I told my husband and he was understanding. I see my pdoc and therapist this week. All I can think of is the cops coming.

Please don't let some comments chase you away from here. .Not everyone is gonna be on the same page all the time, but I am surprised how this thread just fell apart
. Try to ignore what makes you feel bad and hang on to the ppl who wants to help you work things out.
I know I'm one of them..
Just yesterday I was going to steal tea tree oil at CVS because its way too overpriced and I really needed it for my triple cartilage piercing that's been acting up.I have those ugly keliod looking bumps (not actually keloids) on two of them and I'm going to a wedding and I will have my hair up so I don't want an ugly looking ear! But I just bought it instead. I said in my head that it isnt worth the risk and I truthfully, for the first time I was scared to do it. Hopefully this is the right path to be on so far :-/ Hope it helps to hear others go through similar situations sd. Feel better and be careful :)
Shall we bring beverages?
And yes, like so many vices, when manic symptoms show up we may react in many ways, do Many things that we would not do otherwise. Yes, it can be a symptom of the bipolar, simply because the manic side does lower our inhibitions, bring out the risk-taker in us, and help us forget to Think about any consequences to our actions.
Like this thread, and many, many others throughout the history of this particular website and group - so often we act without Thinking of how it feels to be on the receiving end of things. When we have a personal crisis in our lives, bipolar or just normal, and we risk sharing it here, we risk any and all comments, but it Sure Hurts when people belittle, criticize, condemn or just insult.
Maybe with have a problem with alcohol. Or food. Or shoplifting...maybe we have IBS, or we hate to shower, or maybe our kid gets sick and we share about it here. All Kinds of things happen that we dare to share because we feel Comfortable here, but we get insulted if someone says something rude, every time.
Lucky me, I don't get insulted by what people say on here. But should I assume everyone should be just like me? I think not.
Just in case "anyone" should have a problem in the future around here, and risk talking about it - a problem that's real and personal and important to Them - I hope nobody brings the popcorn just because they think people should be thick-skinned.
