Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

In 2013 I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. About a month ago my psychiatrist put me on an ant-depressant to help with suicidal thoughts. About two weeks ago the medication put me into a manic state. I let my therapist and pdoc know I was shoplifting and displaying manic symptoms. They adjusted my meds. The manic behavior didn't subside and I called my pdoc Wed and Fri telling her my behavior still wan't under control. She said she could see me next Friday.
Yesterday I shoplifted three times at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I went on a rampage out of nowhere. The first time I put a blanket and two pillows in a cart and just walked out with the signals going off. I went back hours later and took two drapes and walked and the signals went off. Reality sets in. I feel ashamed and terrible. I sit in my car and go over what I have done. I can't return the items now I feel. I go back in 30 minutes later and decide to pay for the items myself and discard later what I stole. Somehow in my demented this mind make sense.
I go back to the drape aisle and get some help and then am reaching for drapes when security comes up. She says she has me on video walking out with two drapes. I say it wan't me. Before I went back in I had taken off my long sleeved shirt and just had an undershirt- it was a hot day and I had been in my car stewing with she. She said since I had a different shirt on they couldn't be for sure.
I told her I was mortified at the situation and I would like to pay for the drapes in hand with me. I go to the check out counter and she asks for my name and phone number. I give her my name, but false number. I did pay with a debit card so it won't be difficult to find me. They didn't take me to a back room, have me admit guilt, call the cops, take down my license.
I am so ashamed. All I can think of is the cops bursting down my door. I can't get off the sofa. Thank God I told my husband and he was understanding. I see my pdoc and therapist this week. All I can think of is the cops coming.

I decided to check myself into the psychiatric ward of a great hospital in my area; this was my first time seeking hospitalization. Due to bed shortages I was placed in the ICU. The ICU was an experience I am glad I had. Maybe I wasn't as sick as many of the other patients, but it opened my eyes to mental health and I am grateful for the experience.
It was great being surrounded by peers of all walks of life and at different stages of their recovery. It was also amazing to have great therapist that really reviewed my medical and personal history.
Again, I wish you all luck in your recovery. Going forward I think a personal, face to face support system is what I need. I feel what a person types from behind a computer and what they say in person are too different in some instances. Personal dialogue works best for me. I will try and provide support though.
Wow. Talk about hypocritical. I'm appalled that some of you have the nerve to come on this support group and rail someone who is hurting. Shame on you!!
I'm embarrassed for all you who have judged so harshly. Unbelievable. What a sad bunch. I almost feel sorry for you haters.
I'm so, so sorry, sdgrrl. Please don't listen to this foolishness. Take care of you.

Bottom line is YOU are looking to change the situation. It doesn't matter at the end of the day what anyone really says. Ultimately its on us to make decisions and choices.
If I learned anything being here since 06 and have had it burned into my brain...
Everyone is "ENTITLED" to their opinions and thoughts.... good bad or indifferent. We are all different and have different perspectives on any given topic. You post than you are open to ALL thoughts and opinions.Jeez What's changed?
I have always said just because you can doesn't mean you should.... but well, I remember all too well how that played out...
Broad strokes striking out all around does nobody any good but let me sit back and watch the shit show some more....
Calling people names or trying to shame them isn't helping anyone either. That is my point.
There is 42 responses and I would say the great majority is positive.
If there is a gas leak throwing a match doesn't help. That is my point. Be supportive and ignore the crap we don't agree with. Like I said I learned very well how it all works...
This isn't a shit show- this is my life. Purveying the situation as an entertained bystander doesn't seem to be in parallel as a supportive person on a supportive site. It seems the exact opposite.
Without getting into too much pathology it shows a lot about a person who would pull up a seat to someone going through pain and get pleasure from it seeing it unfold before their eyes.
Reread what I wrote...

Please realize you missed the point of my sarcasm and the fact that you don't know me so I can understand why you would think that...
No worries - it happens in the written word.
Good luck
