Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
This is a microcosm of the Giant Playground of Life - when I was small, we took turns being in charge! That way, we could all practice.
Some were better than others; some really Sucked at it, but everyone knew we All needed the skills.
You should all take turns being a moderator - or not playing at all. WeeOne's point leaves us as we are - free to Choose.
If we become defensive over the comments of an avitar on a screen, what does that tell us?
Multiple diagnoses are not as uncommon as folks used to think. And those need to practice social skills as much as the others!
In a Perfect World, we would need no Perfecting. But, God bless us, we do! So let's get in there and see if we can bloom where we're planted - weeds and all.
Princess
It sure wouldn't be perfect - and I'm ok the way things are - but it might be a workable alternative.

When we're in a good space, someone's antagonistic and abusive behaviors may make us mad as hell, but won't typically drive someone to make a suicide attempt. However, this IS a bipolar board, people here are in different emotional places and the point and goal of the board is to share, to decrease isolation, support one another, become more educated in order to better help ourselves and by all means, to enjoy each others company and laugh a bit.
Sadly, because we are sometimes in different emotional places, someones words and antagonistic ways most definitely can be the final thing that pushes someone over the edge.
Regarding moderators. Doug has yet to tell us he's shutting us down, or he's sick of us. He simply handles things appropriately as they come up and works his butt off to make this a safe and comfortable place for us all. I don't think we need moderators, I for one don't feel I need a boss or a babysitter.
But I sure do appreciate that Doug is there and very attentive. I actually spotted him on the board a few nights ago at midnight, although it was only 9 in CA.
At the very least, let's get monitored that knows our quirks and attitude. One of us.
That would keep Doug from monitoring this site. And, he does!
MT -- I know Doug is lurking and checking things out. That's because he cares about a project he was part of creating, and that's a wonderful thing.
But, to have anyone on here, telling us what is acceptable and not.... nope, it just doesn't wash with me. I can't help it.
I think Doug is doing a great job at what he's doing. And honestly, I don't think it is healthy for any of us to feel we are responsible for the board and it's tons of people who travel through here. We all share the same illness and sorry, but we've seen most of us, myself included, have our share of ups and downs.
I stand by what I said. Utilizing someone from within to be a moderator 1. Wouldn't work and 2. Would not be healthy.
Yes, we get assholes who come in and reak havoc and God knows how upset I am that they even can push a fragile person over the edge, but, the proposed plan has far too many holes. Introduce a new one and I may bite, but not this one.
Doug is impartial. This site is Dougs baby. THAT is what makes the current situation work. Might take a couple of days while he investigates to be fair to all, but it works in the end. IMHO.
Doug has to step in, numerous times and ban members... he's watching. I'd prefer a middle-man that has run the gamut of postings on this board. Bipolar Princess!
I stand by my belief that it's not healthy for someone from within to be "in charge".
Bpprincess is a wonderful person -- this isn't about her or anyone else.
But we all have our friends in here and it would far to easy for one of us to side with someone or to simply not like someone.
Again, Dougs impartial. I think that is needed and....he's very responsive.
We're both entitled to our opinions.
