Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hi guys,
reaching out since this is now the second medication I have tried and had a sever reaction to. I started Effexor back in September and was directed to increase my dose last Thursday. And then started propranolol on Sunday as directed. I was up almost all night and suddenly the worst panic attack I've ever had hit me like a bus. I was hallucinating, couldn't breath, had suicidal thoughts and genuinely 100% thought I was dying. I am 29 and called my mom at 3 am begging her to take me to the hospital. She was able to talk me down but I had full body tremors and muscle spasms. My dr took me off of it completely today and had me do the genetic testing for medications. He wants me to take busiprone while we are waiting for the test results but now I'm so scared idk if I can. I had this happen with Zoloft a few years ago too. The only reason I was even put on Effexor was because my psychiatrist retired and my new dr wanted to get me off of benzodiazepines completely. Any encouragement or positive experience would be appreciated.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

I’m sorry you had to go through this. I don’t have much experience with medication so I can’t give any direct advice on that but I just want to encourage you to keep pushing. Panic attacks can be so awful. The fear is debilitating. At the time when it was worse for me I would have been willing to try anything to make it go away. Even now. I’m extremely sorry you had to go through this terrible experience. It’s enough having to deal with panic attacks without having to also worry about medication making it worse. Just remember although we may need medication to help us pull through for some time, ultimately we’re the ones who have to heal ourselves. I suggest if you haven’t already, try to take a more natural approach to healing by eating right, getting a bit of activity in your day and getting your doctor’s advice whether supplements like vitamin d, magnesium and a b complex may be beneficial to you as a deficiency in these can cause anxiety symptoms or make it worse. I just started on those myself. I hope you feel better. We can all pull through this.
Keep in touch with your doctor. Keep trying what they suggest. You've come this far, pretty soon you will get the right combination. I know it's really hard. But once a person finds the right medication, or dose of medication, or combination of medications... you will finally be feeling so much better. It's worth it to keep trying. You will get there soon. You are not alone!
I now take paxil and epival and i did have some relief for quite a while but i am struggling at the moment.
I take xanax daily to limit panic attacks and zoplodem at night to sleep.
Ive tried alternative treatments but with no success.
Tell your dr how bad things are. So changes can be made to find the right meds for you.
We are here for you.
Dont give up hope! Work with your Dr. to find what works for you
That said, don't be afraid to give something else a try. What do you have to lose right? You survived that super awful panic attack on effexor. So you know you're going to live through it.
Good luck on your medicine journey.
