Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

The Friday before Labor Day just before we left, the options given to me basically were either quit of be fired, and if I were to stay on I were to be put on an improvement plan, which is pretty much synonymous with getting fired. I was going to do the improvement plan and just ride it out until I found another job due to money and due to the fact that I did not want to quit without another job. I went to my parents house over the weekend and my dad was very adamant that I not do this. He said that their 'option' to quit was not an option and that if I didn't take it they were going to make my life hell and that they were playing games with me, and that if I were fired 'for cause' I would not be getting unemployment anyway. My work has a thirty day notice written into it, and there is a quazi contract where if *you* quit they can possibly sue for damages and report you to the department of education but they can dump you at anytime, yet somewhere in there it is still written that the arrangement is 'at will'. Thing is, this is basically constructive discharge, I would not be quitting at this point had they not done this on Friday.
As it stands, I put in resumes over the weekend and there is a place, a school that wants to interview me tomorrow, and have me come onsite on Friday. He said that they are looking to hire now. I need to take the job because this one is over. And I don't think that I am going to be able to carry out this thirty days, and with this situation and the way they have acted, I want to get out of there. If push comes to shove, and they do try to sue becuause I leave sooner, i think that I will ask an employement attorney for a consult, or I will consult with someone who can give legal advice. They practically forced me to quit-so preventing me from taking another job is not going to work for me. They can't simulaneously threaten to fire me and then force me to stay there also. If need be I will ask a lawyer what to do. My job developer from voc rehab might be able to point me in the right direction. I have the phone interview tomorrow and a possible on site interview on Friday. It sounds like a promising position.
I'll never understand why my master's degree got me absolutely nothing. I'm now back in the exact ecosystem I was trying to avoid. And it really seems like since I graduated I can't hold a job. A year ago I was let go from a sub position due to not controlling a classsroom, earlier this summer from a corporate traning in short order for not catching on to their way, and now this. But none of these things were my goal or what I wanted at all in any way shape or form-and maybe that is the problem.
In the meanwhile, I got the COMP TIA Core one and two books. I understand that this is a different area of tech that is more accessible to go into and that there are actual entry level jobs to be had, unlike the area that I studied for, which was product designa and development. My friend was saying over the weekend not to purchase some expensive course, but to just get the Core one and two books, read them and to take the test and that they are 'easy'. Honestly, I was studying chapter one hardware today and it was the hardest thing I have ever read. I don't plan on going into computer repair, but my hope is to start in help desk and maybe get some other certs and work my way up from there. This is not what I had planned on but it does seem doable. I certainly hope I can pass these tests-for me this material seems really challenging. I really wanted to be in ux design, which is what I was doing, I really loved the graphic design, it was great, but it was going nowhere for me.

Maybe they can help with getting you a permanent position. It shouldn't cost you any money at all to go to an agency. They get paid by the employers, not paid by any of the employees.
I hope your interview goes well and that this is a position that you like.
I don't understand. Did you put in your 30 day notice? What is in the news in the city next to me is the school board reporting the certified teachers who quit their contract to the state. Which puts a black mark on them.
Go back and reread your contract. If you have to give 30 days notice and you want to quit, just take it sentence by sentence to understand it.
Having my master's degree also did not open doors magically in my field. I also have a state license for my profession. Here is my take on it.
Ageism. Not sure how old you are but over 50 seems to get bias stuff from younger folks who are hiring.
And master's degrees are sold as the magical key to make a ton more money. And I am reading articles of people who spend a fortune getting a master's degree and it doesn't matter. MANY of us are not able to get jobs in the degree career field. We are not alone in this.
And if you do any kind of IT stuff with your degree, well AI has taken over and also the H1B visas in the USA bringing in non-citizen workers in tech and medical. They pay them a whole lot less.
I see a ton of older adults working in the stores where I live. It used to be only younger folks worked in the stores and now I see mostly older. Say 60's to 80's. I had a checker who had to be around 80 the other day. Seriously. Don't know where all the teens and 20's people are working.
As for why you can't keep a job, do you think depression has anything to do with the problems you have experienced? Just asking because depression affects the brain. Please know we all care about you, I care about you. You are such a nice person.
I agree to read your contract really well or have a lawyer go over it with you
You hate the teaching positions so I don't know that I'd continue to try and get one
I think an employment or a temp agency might be a good idea Mars
I'm sorry that you're going through such a rough time...xo
I did a short phone interview with the other school. It's one on one tutoring but I don't think it's going to go anywhere.
I'm not sure what's up with my not maintaining work as well as I used to before graduation. I know my motivation to work in this field has died since I got my engineering degree. I thought I would be doing something else. As for my brain, I suppose mental illness could play a part, I don't know. I had a brain scan done due to my migraines and they found a stroke there. I didn't know that I had a stroke and I was sent to a cardiologist for further evaluation. I have felt that I've had minor cognitive changes but that could be subjective-I'll talk more with my neurologist about it. It was news to me that I had a stroke.
