Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hi guys,
I'm new to this site and this group but I just wanted to share some troubles that I've been having recently.
I've had anxiety since I was about 17 (I'm 23 now) and about a year ago I flew for the first time since I was little which was a massive thing for me. Being uncomfortable and somewhere I don't know is a big hitter for me.
After that in 2020, I felt really good! Like I'd overcome a hurdle. Then lockdown hit! I was ok in the first lockdown, struggling in the second. Now in the third I feel like I'm losing my mind. I am having the darkest thoughts I've ever had in my life like what is the point in even being alive? What's the point in this because everything outside of the four walls of my flat I am scared of everything!
I feel really trapped at the moment and like I've taken a landslide back to where I started.
I used to be on Setraline but slowly came off of them when I knew I was feeling better. But at the moment I find that whenever my mind isn't occupied I'm honestly thinking - what is the point? I'm never going to feel comfortable or have fun in anything ever again? my other half is really supportive and calms me down and deals with my manic episodes a lot but
ive never been like that I've always been a fighter!
And I'd love to know whether anyone is feeling the same at the moment like their back at square one and how they are dealing with it.
Thankyou for listening to me vent and hi everyone!

I was listening to George Birge radio on Pandora in my car yesterday. It sounded good but the lyrics are so limited with country music. I just couldn't hear another song about whiskey. Now I'm listening to Tori Amos. She is my female Elton John. I love their lyrics!

When i was in the ER February 16th 2025, i was being admitted to ICU where i was for 3 weeks, then had to relearn to walk for 3 weeks in another hospital rehab floor, the nurse told me something that made me feel for over 18 months now that i was finally *safe*. She told me that the guy who raped and beat me 21 years ago now almost 20 years at that time, was in prison as of a month before that...

Yes, the lock downs have been so tough. Where I live, we have been pretty much on complete lock down since last March, 2020. They tried to open up partially, 25% capacity, but shut that right down after only 6 weeks, last July. Since then, it's been really locked down. It is tiring to live like this.
It won't be like this forever. You can make it.
Keep writing it out, keep a journal. It helps.
You are not alone.
I’ve never considered a journal before which seems mental now you’ve mentioned it - Thankyou I will do that.
I'll second the journal recommendation. My journal was my mental health lifeline long before the shutdown. Now? ? ? You do the math.
No question about it. Year 2 of the shutdown is looking even meaner than year one was. I'm still not afraid of Nature's way, but the maskite politics are scaring the unholies out of me. Even more frightening than the masked marshal law is having the majority of my mental health management tools taken away from me.
Still. . . I get by with a little help from my friends here. Hope you do, too.
Healing hopes for all. No exceptions.
You've taken the important first step in writing it out.
I stopped zoloft and use the even breathing technique to calm the anxiety in the moment.
Keep writing it out!
I’m not sure if I made the wrong decision coming off the anti depressants I was described but it’s difficult because I don’t feel depressed! I just feel worried about everything and anything and that’s what’s making me sad. Who knows it’s all a minefield.
Thanks for your help ☺️
I feel like to start I almost need prompts I struggle talking to anyone about it let alone actually writing it down and facing it!
The advantage I find in posts like this one over journaling is that they invite allot more open discussion and sometimes I need the feedback. The load is easier when shared.
I was just telling someone the other day that in March it will be whole year since things started shutting down.
I talk to my counselor once a week and tell her I'm depressed. She told find something to keep me occupied. I started reading books, did jigsaw puzzles, some home projects, etc. I'd usually do things like that in the morning, then in the afternoon I'd try to get out, weather permitting. All I can say is that keeping busy kept my mind off my problems. Hopefully it can work for you too.
You could write stuff here. Or just take out a regular notebook (like a school notebook) and just start - writing. What's on your mind, what are you thinking about right now, what's bugging you, how your day is going so far, etc. Write anything you want to. It's not being graded or anything :)
The sertraline (Zoloft) also is for anxiety. If you did well on it before, you could ask your doctor if they could prescribe it again. Then it would help you with both anxiety and depression.
I hope the pandemic ends soon!
Thanks to you all ❤️
