However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Yesterday morning, there were threats on Twitter and Reddit towards my high school. They were school shooting threats and bomb threats. My dad picked me up from school early yesterday and because the posts weren't "credible", school is continuing as normal but I'm really scared.
I'm terrified now that someone is just gonna walk in and shoot up my school. A learning environment where I've always felt safe until now. The police haven't found out who is behind those posts yet. I should never feel afraid at my school but now I'm looking over my shoulder expecting to see someone with a gun. Until they arrest the person that threatened not only my safety but the safety of over 2,000 people including my little brother, I am going to be scared.

Keep venting. It helps, sometimes, and I am glad you felt free to share about it here. Vent freely. Vent often.
Drawstrings on children's clothing are regulated because of one or two deaths a year, cribs are recalled...and far more kids die in school shootings.
All I can say is grow up and vote. Create the world that you want your own kids to live in.
Sometimes it helps to focus on your immediate environment:
THIS room is safe. No one HERE is hurting anyone. Teachers that are HERE care.
The feelings are valid, however, are they based upon real life scenarios, or a combination of "what if".
The reason I say this is it might help you to find a calm balance to continue going to school.
Best wishes.
