  Today was a hard day. I went up to the Northern part of the state where my son had been living up until about a year ago, when he up and moved to Brazil. It was so hard seeing his vehicle that is just sitting in a driveway, and hearing his stepdad say, "He found himself a new family." 31 years of loving this kid, and going through good and bad times..and he just abandons us. I can't believe the selfishness. OK, both his father and I can be pretty selfish, but not to just walk out of someone's...

  My son and I are not exactly estranged per se, but it feels that way. About 10 months ago, he was at a transition point, and the job he had had for a few years lost their contract and began laying people off. He was not very happy there in the last months and so he was all for it. However, apparently he had been thinking for some time about going to Brazil, and about a month later he left on a temporary visa.
