Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
We were married for over 17 years (but had a lot of issues for the past 12.) In the end I do realize that his struggles with his issues and mine with feeling so overwhelmed and alone in it all (with so much responsibility and just trying to keep on with work, home, him and my own health suffering ) did contribute to everything. But I really did love him and he did me (as best he knew how)
Now he is at peace and eventually I will start MY life over. (Something I have never truly had my entire life. I always did for others and forgot about myself) I do miss him at times and it is a bit of a roller coaster.
I have been on DS for several years and found friends and solace in different groups for different issues over the years. Now I have found myself here with the rest of you. I am truly sorry for your losses and that these are the circumstances that led us all here. You are all in my thoughts and prayers (just as he is)
I'm Jane and I lost my partner and soulmate on December 9th, 2019.
It was a difficult road as he was diagnosed with cancer 6 years prior and the last 3 years were surgeries and radiation treatments.
I lost my best friend, my laughing partner and adventure rider all in a single moment.
What gets me is the response from well-meaning people. People who haven't experienced a significant loss and "think" they know how to respond. I had a good friend tell me when I return to work- to set the boundaries, so I did. Did my colleagues respect those boundaries? Several did but several didn't. And when I told them to respect my boundaries, they were shocked. Some don't talk to me now, some do. One is a pure drama queen.
But what I usually get is people telling me how I should feel, react and be. So I say "really? You think so, eh?" cock my head and that shuts them up. So when my mother passed 3 weeks ago - I didn't tell my colleagues. I called in sick and then returned to work as if I had a bad cold. Why don't people respect death as a process and not a stage for drama or their unresolved issues? Why is death not talked about in a normal context much like birth?
I can relate. My husband died suddenly at 64, day after Thanksgiving 2014. My life was turned upside down too...the most devastating event of my life! I have no plans to remarry but God knows. So I live through His will. I go one day at a time. Today was an emotional day not for any big reason but it happens now and again but nothing like the first 3 and half years! I'm grateful for the great life we had together. Not everyone can say that.
Thank you for sharing!

My husband passed may 20 2020 of a heart attack in the night at 58 years young.. we were together for 20 years. I just turned 48.
We were close and had a true love. He held my hand and told me that he loved me everyday.
It was just always me and him and I feel so lost.
I joined this site to connect with others that can relate to my situation.
Daily strength was my lifesaver and I hope to find that love and support again.
