Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
Welcome Yazmin. Not everybody is an outgoing extrovert. People who are really into the whole social scene won't understand that. I had a coworker try to get me to "go clubbing so we could pick up cute guys" when I was only about 2 months into my widowhood. That was an absurd idea on so many different levels.
One thing that might be worth trying would be to see if your local library has a book group. I am a reader, always have been, and sometimes it's nice to read a book and get someone else's reaction to it. The library is usually a safe, non-pressured environment. It would also get others off your back about socializing. I belong to two book groups at present; one run by our local library and another that is through our church so the books are more spiritually-relevant. I have met some nice people this way. I enjoy both groups very much.
Anyway, it's just a thought. It won't replace your husband, nothing can. I understand that. Cliff and I used to read to each other. I still miss that. But maybe it would be a small step that would give you a break from the constant weight of being Doug's widow.
Hope this helps.
Love and Hugs,
Martha

I lost the love of my life Dianna on Oct 2nd 2019 due to sepsis,
I just found this group. The hurt runs so deep
This is Judy from southern Illinois. II disappeared from here awhile back. I lost my husband Gary in February 2018. I lived in a fog for so many many months. Things are better now. I miss him and I know one day we will be together. Memories still have a way of sneaking up on me and flood my eyes. I will get through this!
Daily Strength became a bright light at the end of my dark tunnel, catching glimpses of hope and survival. My husband passed in 2005 from an heart attack, I joined Daily Strength in 2009, after realizing that I, indeed, needed/wanted a safe place to speak truth instead of masking my pain. I could not burden my friends and family with the gut-wrenching pain of loss. That began a wonderful journey into my new normal (as so many have named it.) I check back occasionally to catch a chance to see how old friends are fairing as well as contribute words of hope to those braving the most difficult journey of their lives. Martha, you are a beautiful flame of hope as you converse with us fellow sojourners. Thank you so much for being available. So many here have become friends via the Internet, and I have had the privilege of meeting many through various Gatherings and Reunions. Each have blessed my life in special ways. Blessings to you, my friend. TJ
Love and Big Hugs,
Martha
I I just came across this site and thought it might be helpful to join others who have experienced the loss of a spouse. I lost my husband of 43 years on September 16th, 2019 to cancer. I am having quite a difficult time adjusting to my new life without my best friend beside me.
