Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
Hi All,
One of the things that was discussed in the conference call with DS, which goes to a lot of the complaints here, was the formatting of the new site. We were told that the new site has been designed and optimized for viewing on a mobile device - i.e., cell phones - as that is how most of the users are using the site. Personally, I doubt that very much, but I have nothing but my own experiences to draw upon. I don't look at this site on a phone - I started on a desktop computer and use a laptop now. When I travel, I use a tablet. I am 59 which means tiny print is hard for me without my reading glasses, and arthritis in my hands makes all that thumb-scrolling not a good idea. But maybe I am in the minority on these things. If you wouldn't mind answering the following, it would help me figure out if it's just me that has these problems, or whether I need to take that back to TeamDS.
What type of device are you using to come to Daily Strength?
A. Cell phone/mobile phone
B. Tablet or iPad
C. Desktop or Laptop computer
Which age group are you in?
A. Under 30
B. 31-45
C. 46-65
D. 66+
I don't normally ask for this kind of info, but I feel it would help me understand better, and I would pass this on to TeamDS so they understand US better.
Thanks,
Martha, co-Community Leader

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

The first question is, who are "they"? Who was the brainchild who came up with this idea? The second question I have, is whoever responsible for this abomination one of us? Are they, or at least one of them, a widow or widower who understands how important DS/WW is to us? We are not a bunch of kids insulting each other on social media because it's fun, or we don't have anything to do...we are all victims of a particularly injurious tragedy by no fault of our own, which is so painful and permanent that, as we all agree, is impossible to be understood by anyone who has not experienced it...and due to varying states of emotionality, it is impossible for ANYONE to perdict how one might personally react to such a deep tragedy...I remember what it was like for me in the first 3-or-4 months...I was of a mind that if someone ran me over or shot me, or if I died of a heart attack or "something else", then I would be with Marylou that much sooner...and there are only two thing that brought me back from that...one was the promise I made to Marylou to spend the rest of my life looking after the girls and our grandkids...and the other was..."was"...the very strong sense of community I felt mingling with all the wonderful souls here on DS...when our members say that DS is...or was...a "lifeline", that needs to be recognized for its true merit.
I know that you and all the members reading this understand exactly what I mean...and I also know that it is impossible for anyone who has not lost a spouse, to understand what that means...and that is the intuitive feel I get for all this...that whoever is in charge of this abortion is someone who does not understand, doesn't want to understand, and couldn't care less'
They will read this, then they will tell you that eighty8 is just a loud-mouth agitator and they're glad I'm gone...if that be the case, I would invite any of them to call me an agitator to my face, and if any of them want to take me up on it, I'll be happy to submit my email to get that ball rolling.
Why am I so angry? Because we were promised that the "new and improved" version would make everything easier, but they delivered the EXACT OPPOSITE! How dare they take this essential lifeline away, when they don't even understand WHY it is a "lifeline"...but if they DO understand why this is a lifeline, but they did this anyway, then that's about ten times worse.
Martha, I assure you that it is my deepest desire to be wrong about this...if I am, then I could probably come crawling back with hat-in-hand...the community of us as a group would be worth it...but I agree with raininseattle, if they really wanted compatibility with mobile devices, they could have created an app for that without destroying the original desktop format.
But why didn't they? I'm sorry, but my feel for all this is, that they just flat don't give a shit...but, if they are out to prove me wrong, I will recognize that with equal vigilance.
