Anniversary of Our Wedding is Coming Up

The anniversary of our wedding, the first since my spouse died, is 5 days from today.  I am preparing myself for the tsunami of emotion that I can see coming, and I want to plan something special for the day, instead of moping around the house.  The only participants will be me, and the memories of the joyful life we had together.

My prayers are with you. I lost my husband 5 years ago this month. People who haven’t lost a spouse don’t understand such anguish. Your spouse will always be with you (hug)

After losing Mike 11 years ago, I had so many first's that I thought that my heart would never stop hurting. Every step through that first year, was hard, jiggered, and unforgiving. Looking back now, I realize that it was those first steps that have led me to the person that I am today. I have found great joy, and those horrible shades of gray and black have transformed to those that warm the sole and feel me with great joy. I miss Michael everyday, and there is never a moment that he isn't on my mind. You will come to the same place that I am, and you will know great joy and love again. We will never lose those who we love as long as we carry them deep inside of us. Find what brings you joy and celebrate your anniversary to the fullest. You got this, and those who love you will be with you every step.

Hang in there Jack. Don't go do any crazy shit for as long as you can. When were early in our grief, guys can go out and do some real head shakers. I know I did. I married a woman I'd only known for 3 weeks. Come to find out she had multiple personalities. I truly feared for my life. Yikes. I call it my 3-day marriage. Be careful out there whenever you think you're ready. - Scott
