Sexual Abuse Support Group
Sexual abuse is a relative cultural term used to describe sexual relations and behavior between two or more parties which are considered criminally and/or morally offensive. Different types of sexual abuse involve: Non-consensual, forced physical sexual behavior such as rape, incest or sexual assault, or psychological forms of abuse, such as verbal sexual behavior or...

Recently, I've been struggling with the idea that what possibly happened to me when I was a child was incest. I don't quite know how to explain it, logically I know it was if it did, but I've never really thought about it until now and just the thought of the word makes me sick.
Several years ago I had these flashes of images in my head, memories I guess they'd be called but flashes describes them more accurately. The first one was of me lying in bed with my grandfather in a nightgown, his hand on my thigh. The next was of me in the bathtub and him coming in, looking at me through the mirror and shutting the door. I remember my grandmother shouting at me, saying how disgusting he and I were because we shared the same bed at night. I was between 6 and 7. I was only ever allowed to wear nightgowns to bed, I remember.
I started remembering this when I was 14. I've never told my family, I always figured it was just something my mind was making up for some reason. And then my mother told me one day out of nowhere that her father, my grandfather, asked her to have sex with him when she was fifteen.
I don't have any concrete memories of touching, just these little bits here and there. There will be times I'm overcome with such revulsion, even though I can't pinpoint why.
I guess my question is, if anyone has experienced this before and how they've learned to deal? I loved my grandfather so much, he was my hero, and I hate thinking about him like this. I just feel like I'm on the brink of remembering, but I don't really want to.
I'm sorry if this is confusing, it's hard to explain and I feel crazy half the time.
Thank you for taking the time to read.

I was sexually assaulted as a kid. I find it hard to accept that another person's actions caused me so much harm. He made bad choices and now I am paying the price. Stupid PTSD!
With me, it was a dream of being molested at a family picnic when I was 5.
I can tell you almost every stupid detail about that day, where, when, even day of the week (Sunday)... but the biggest thing I can't tell you is...
who it was...
I can tell you what he said, how he laughed, the things I felt.. (or what he felt).
But I have no idea what he looked like..
Now here's the kicker with me... I've had this dream a few times... the first time, I let it happen. The second time, I realized it was a dream (I've learned how to control (mostly) dreams) I grabbed his arm, started looking up to see who it was and right before I got to his face, I woke up..
I started talking to my therapist at the time about this stuff,
The a few days later, same thing.. I grabbed his arm, looked up much faster and it was really creepy but all I could see was a smooth face. No nose, ears, mouth.... nothing... yet it was still talking to me, laughing at me..
I have given up trying to remember. I just say " yep, I was molested at 5, " cause that explains a lot of my child hood and anger issues..
it really doesn't matter what happened or who did it.. either way I need to deal with it..
My brain knows I'm not ready for the info of the "who" but I really don't care anymore..
You are not alone nor with the struggles either..
I'm here if you want to talk or ask questions my nic is...

Flashbacks, or flashes of memory, are difficult to deal with and process. That is how my memories started coming back too. If you can, and are not already, please consider seeing a therapist. A therapist who specializes in sexual abuse would be best but if you can't find one then please still go to one who doesn't specialize. It's important that you start processing what happened to you so that you can heal from it. You can heal and you deserve to heal. You deserve to live a life free from what he did to you.
