Being aware of one’s self helps with ptsd. Mine wasn’t fear based reactions. Mine was anger based. Defensive reactions to simple things. The need to show anyone and everyone that I was in control and I had no fear, it works until you’re in a great relationship so, I had to let all that go. I’m thankful for the support. Because to allow myself to feel vulnerable was actually good medicine. It showed to me that the man that did what he did for years has no control over me. Having a great life shows he had no effect on me. That was my way to regain power and tamper my ptsd.
I hope you can find your path. Because once you do you’ll feel this wave of emotions and relief. Good luck friend.
I tried to talk about it a once as an adult, but the therapist I was seeing (only twice) told me I must’ve remembered it wrong cause that doesn’t normally happen, and she didn’t believe me.. when I left her office crying, I went to the front desk and they told me “ well, if you can’t work with her, then there’s nothing more we can do for you “ … I was scared and bawling my eyes out… and they said we can’t help you…. I sat in my car crying, and got even more scared that they would call the cops, so I drove away to the nearest park… I never should’ve been driving, but I was scared and ……..
sorry… I didn’t mean to dump on you… yes, ptsd as a kid is terrible … and yes, I’m still dealing with things from that day… health issues everyday that I have to take care of that don’t flare up…
