Seasonal affective disorder, also known as S.A.D., winter depression or the winter blues is an affective, or mood, disorder. Most SAD sufferers experience normal mental health throughout most of the year, but experience depressive symptoms in the winter or summer. Looking back on some of the winters, there were a couple of times where I traveled to someplace sunny for work, and it boosted my mood for at least a week or two after I got back.
This is my 2nd winter with diagnosed SAD. I have a lightbox for the first time and am using it faithfully. I had my first bad night this past week and one of the hardest struggles is my friends. They hate seeing me this way and keep trying to fix it. There's nothing to fix, I tell them! This is something I have to ride out, and so I ask them to just keep me company, distract me.
So we all feel worse between October and Feb, what do you all do to help yourselves, I have a SAD light, but i find that makes me feel irritable! (could just be me though and not the light!) hehe
February, March, and April are my worst months.
I become manic because the sun will come out (i'm overly happy) and then darkness for a few days (very down). This is very hard on me and would rather just be down all the time. not sure if that makes sense??
I desire moving to AZ, because when it is sunny & warm-hot, I feel very spiritual/connected to God.
Good luck with your winter :)
But in Oslo, November and December are BRUTAL
They're cold, wet, cloudy...just not good for me.
