Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
But, since a lot of people experience side effect (particularily in the beginning) I would take it in the evening and pick a day that allows you the most rest the next day.
Make sure you are taking folic acid to counter other side effects.
Good luck! But, don't expect quick results. Be patient and take it easy until you find the right "drug cocktail".
I will be switching to Injectable in June.
It is worth it for me. It started helping within 3 weeks.
I'm not great, but I am MUCH better. SSZ and MTX are my cocktail!
It sucks to be planning which days are most convenient for me to feel like crap!
good luck
Thanks again for all the replies. It's really helped!
Also postings about whether to take all at once (if pills) or spread over the day. Have tried both way and now back to taking mine all in one go at night and sleeping until I wake up. I have that luxury as no longer working.
Another member who has effectively left the site but with whom I am still in contact plays about with her dose as mtx makes her so tired. After a while both she and I find we are able to reduce it. I also sometimes spread the time between doses. It just depends how I am going.
It takes a long time to really work out what things help and what doesnt for you. But great to be proactive and getting ideas here are part of that. Hope mtx works for you. I have been on it twice as after 18 months had to come off because of elevated liver enzymes. Girl I know here was even hospitalised because of this issue and then put back on it with no further problems. After about a year off and failure of alternatives I went back on it and three years down the track holding steady with the universal experience of up and down periods/flares etc.
No right way I would suggest. But I do really recommend that Vit C - at least 1000mg and as Angelpuss says lots of water. Makes sense really - toxic substance, albeit helpful, keep hydrated.
Hope u find what works for u!
Xoxo MLC.
