Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I'm back from 10 years ago- old account deleted
I was on Daily Strength 10 years ago for multiple unprovoked PE's in my left lung and took warfarin for 1.5 years and then stopped under the direction of my doctor. I honestly didn't mind having my INR's done and my hemotologist adjusted my dosing and I ate all the green veggies I wanted. I did the blood clotting tests after coming off Coumedin, but some tests weren't available back then or my hemotogist didn't test me for them. I'm negative for Factor V Leiden. I had some numbers that were elevated with the Lupus anticoagulants, but we both felt good about me coming off the meds since I had a lot of side effects from the Coumedin. I had pretty bad brain fog, nausea, forgetfulness, fatigue from the side effects of Coumedin. Now... 8 years later after NO blood thinners I've had a second round of unprovoked PE's in my right lung and was in the hospital for a few days on heparin and now I've started Xarelto a month ago. So far it's been pretty good until the last week and I've had some gastro issues with heart burn and some ulcer type aches in my tummy which my doctor knows about. After 3 weeks, I'm now on 20mg of Xarelto once a day and wondering if any "blood thinner for life" are using a reduced dosage of 10-15mg to decrease potential internal bleeding problems? My other primary concern is that I have been using a lot of natural remedies for health including drinking Kombucha (fermented green and black tea) for probiotic effects, using essential oils and Aloe Vera liquid plus herbs to help my stomach so I don't have a flare up of GERD. I've stopped using all of those for now until I can do more research. How many of you have been on Coumedin and made the switch to Xarelto with success in the last few years? Even though Xarelto has things that concern me with no reversal agent and a one size fits all dosage. Are most of you happy that you made the switch from Coumedin to Xarelto? Has anhyone gone back to using Coumedin after trying Xarelto? You all were the best 10 years ago and I appreciate any feedback.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Can’t say I’ve had side affects. With warfarin my main side affect was hair loss. Once I was on warfarin for a good year, it got easier to manage my INR. I have to say I didn’t really have issues warfarin either but I did feel I was more cognizant if interactions with other drugs and other stuff that interacted with warfarin. I feel less concerned about that with being on xarelto.
Ain’t gonna lie; the freedom from INR checks and dosage changes is pretty sweet. I felt like with warfarin I was always thinking about that and so for me, xarelto makes me feel a little more normal.
I remember you from ten years ago. I don’t know the details because my memory has faded with age, but thanks for the comment. I’m really disappointed that since I didn’t stay active on the DS site my old account was deleted. Wish I could go back and read some of the side effects I didn’t like about coumedin. I’m hanging in there and will see a Hemotologist on Thursday to discuss a plan of action that works best for me. I would be most comfortable knowing my INR levels so I can use some alternative treatments like essential oils and herbs, but only under the direction of a doctor who’s willing to supervise me. Good to hear from you. AlexandraK
If your worried about stomach issues talk to your Dr. It’s not something to ignore.
I was given a second choice to switch to Pradaxa.. I was told it was able to be controlled faster then warfarin in the event it needed to be. I chose to stay on warfarin though and don’t have any personal experience with Pradaxa.. It may be something to inquire about with your Dr. if xarelto concerns you.
I am looking for answers,If anyone has a severe stiff neck and trouble turning head. Thank you in advance.
