Why So Much Pain In The World?
bryteyz
Have always wondered why there is so much pain in this world?
Why do people hurt each other? Is there a purpose for it?
Are some meant to be the "shock-absorbers", and carry the pain
inflicted by others? Is the soul the ideal place for the pain to heal
and the legacy of pain to stop?
What does your pain feel like? How do you allow yourself to
FEEL the pain?
I realize this is more than one question, but all kind of the same...
Not that figuring out the answers to the questions will take the pain
away, am learning to accept what I've been given, but somehow, it
helps to understand and I just wondered what other's perspectives
were and what their pain felt like.

I don't really know how to label this but I having a rough week and I can't say it's one thing.... I have a lot on my plate which is nothing new and I try to cope in many positive ways and do but I still have my moments. My kids more so my daughters talk to me about everything which I know it's cause of comfort and we are close.... however I really struggle with the venting about their dad which...

I have felt like a sponge most of my life... feeling as though it was part of my duty to take the pain for others. Unfortunately, the sponge got so full... it started seeping out... I think that's where I still am. I don't process. My husband absorbs a lot of others' pain... he's always calm and seems to attract the most screwed up friends :)... but he burbs A LOT. Sometimes it makes me think of the Green Mile n how the guy would absorb the pain & release it out of his mouth. Yeah... humor again. It's the only way I can deal.
Itsalwayssunny,
Yes, I have heard of that saying pain is inevitable, suffering is not and I think I get it. Pain, as in something that happens TO you, not necessarily because of anything you did to deserve it? Then, suffering, as in how you treat the pain? Like, if you ignore it, or bury it deep down inside, or turn around and take the pain out on someone else -- and basically, anything to not FEEL the actual pain? So then the consequences of that is suffering?
Like a physical wound from a rusty nail, you could just ignore the infection, but it will only fester and eventually cause lots more pain, or in turn, take it out on another, which will bring back more pain, or you could break open the wound (which would REALLY hurt!), get the pus out, clean it and treat it with antiseptic, maybe medicine, then it would heal?
If this is true, I have another question one I havent asked before how long must one feel this pain before it is healed?
Iaminrepair,
I am somewhat like you, in that I have been unable to process the pain, and now, with my children grown and an empty nest, maybe thats why so many of the PTSD symptoms are washing over me. I am learning to let myself FEEL the pain, but it is excruciating sometimes and can feel unbearable and bewildering! Though dissociating is worse... : (
I had thought of the man in the Green Mile also so, is it possible, maybe, to see others abusive actions, words, etc. as just THEIR pain working itself out of them (instead of seeing them as evil or something), and then just allow the painful effects to be expressed back out in a more positive or constructive way?
DANG!!! No wonder the doctors told me I was unconscious, like a zombie, most of my life and no wonder I am having such a rough time now! I have gradually awakened in these last few years and feel like a serious emotional basket case most of the time, though I AM holding it together! But, whew!!! It is SO hard! Processing, allowing myself to FEEL the pain! Completely frightening to me sometimes!
That is why, I asked the questions:
What does your pain feel like? How do you allow yourself to FEEL the pain?
Bryteyz, this is interesting, and the original question, "why so much pain in the world", brings another question to me: are you referring to physical, mental, and/or combined pain?
I experience physical pain, and can make adjustments to lessen its impact on my normal daily living activities by switching how I move.
I experience mental pain, and I have to sort through whether it's my feelings, my reactions, my responses, and if there is connecting physical pain to decide how to adjust to the change.
When I attract negative energy, I picture myself as a big warm ball of sunshine, and I use as much positive energy to change the flow. I am usually able to prevent myself from being hurt worse, both physically and mentally at that point.
The way we process "pain" is a unique gift.
Best wishes on your continued healing.
