Hi all!
After being diagnosed with depression for over twenty years, I was diagnosed with PTSD in March 2020, and C-PTSD in 2021. I left my 20 year career as a primary school teacher, and my children are grown up and living their own (fulfilling) lives.
I have tried EMDR, CBT, hypnosis, Narrative Exposure Therapy, CFT for PTSD and a range of self care and compassion focussed work. Alongside medication, I have found different methods useful at different times in my life. I have an AMAZING therapist and I'm so grateful that I have developed a trust in her that I wasn't able to for 20 years, with others.
I look forward to hearing from you all! Take good care

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

So voc rehab finally got in touch with me...it took like six months finally. The voc rehab person that they assigned to me is a lawyer and extremely knowledgable on disability law and he seems to know a great deal about how to get people placed in jobs and how to make their resumes pass ATS. I was really surprised at how articulate and energetic he is. I guess my question is how much I...

I know life can be so tough sometimes, but I always try to find the positives- usually something to do with my children. I’m trying to be pleased with myself for getting out of bed and anything I manage on top is a bonus.
I do not know much about DS. I have met people with many different conditions or disabilities, but not DS. I have heard of it and read a little about it, but I don’t know much.
How has your day been today?
Welcome to the group
Big hug <3
My day is going good, Yours?
Yah, these disabilities and conditions can be hard to figure out, I really don't know anything about Down Syndrome......wish someone would have told me as I got older,, So, I would know what I was in for. Maybe my mother did, I don't know, I was only 5.
Like You I try to see the positive in people,
We all should.
These conditions are all very complicated- it is hard to understand most of them, especially those that can’t be seen!
You’re a good man for trying to understand- I respect your patience. It’s better for our own mental health when we try to see different perspectives. You don’t have to like, trust or forgive the person.
The "Halloween" movie franchise, The Micheal Myers Character, His parent's didn't catch his problem before it was too late.
I do get out to the Gym stuff like that, But, it does give me anxiety, Though, I try to fight it, Sometimes it get's so intense, I leave the gym. playing guitar gives me anxiety.
I have loved horror since I was a little girl- my dad used to come in from the bar he ran late at night and there was usually a horror on and I’d get up and watch it with him.
There is a really cool documentary called In Search of Darkness- it’s all about 80’s horror, but there is a part where they discuss the connection between trauma and horror. I watch the Saw films, and feel grateful that I’m not in one of his traps!
I’m sorry you struggle so much with your anxiety- I do too. I feel like a completely different person. I used to be full of confidence, hosting dinner parties and talking to anyone. Now, I’m closed off, afraid of my own shadow and avoiding social occasions at all costs. I actually don’t even take my bins out, as going outside is terrifying now, so getting out is a big thing for me and a massive cause of anxiety. I understand!
