Got through it, too. In my case my mother was the sinister parent behind all the horrible beatings and abuse of all her children, sad to say. Yet she expected flowers and cards to show all her church friends on days like yesterday. Wish she hadn't been that way, but the only word for it is "twisted." The holiday's a reminder, so it helps for it to pass. At best, it's a day of us are homesick for the home we never had, mourning for the mom we never had.

I survived. All the traditional Holidays remain my proof that my family would communicate better without a common language. Triple for our "Traditions." This year's published calendar dates seem to be all we can agree on.

Again I remind myself that it is not about being perfect. It is about working it out. No emergency room visits, so we are making progress. I think?

I got through my first mother's day, too. Very awkward and alone without the bond I had with my mom. I was able to spent it with family that I really don't get to see, which was great but it also felt very disconnecting and estranged, as it was not with my parents and other family members to whom I'm connected to...

I lived in a foster home and got to know my mom in later years which was good years before she died. I have an older sister who does not want to be bothered.
