Anxious-doctor's appointment coming
Chronic kidney disease and diabetes have added to my PTSD now in my old age, so I have to have regular CKD and diabetes appointments along with visits to my psychiatrist. I saw my psychiatrist last week, but now I have to see my primary care doc for the first time in 6 months on Friday.
I don't know if I'm imagining it, but I've been having a pressure sensation in my chest for the last 2 weeks. Since CKD caused nerve damage in my legs, I barely walk with a cane, much less exercise. So I gained 80 pounds in 4 months and developed an obesity problem, with the blood pressure that goes with it.
I guess I ought to tell him about the chest tightness, then, but I get a little nervous and have a hard time explaining myself. I've got to have blood and urine tested this week for Friday's appointment. It triggers my PTSD to be handled that way, so I'm not really good at going through that.
You'd think I'd be cool with all of this, since before my health broke I worked at a hospital daily as a hospital chaplain. But even if it seems hypocritical, it's different when you're the patient yourself.
I'm anxious about it, I'll admit. As always, any support is appreciated.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

***I was just thinking of you and wondering how the itching was going, and hoping that it was getting even a bit better.***
i get very anxious about doctor's appointments, and waiting for test results.
i'd say,try your best to ground yourself before and after your appointment, and please reward yourself for getting through it....
much much support to you.
When I go to the rheumatologist & get my blood tests or to the orthopedist to get my cortisone shots in my wrists, (those are particularly hard for me) I always look the other way & either try to picture being on the beach or somewhere peaceful to me or I picture what im gonna get after I leave the doctors (weather it's like a juice or a food I like) I will try to treat myself those days for the accomplishment of getting through those appointments.
I definitely think it's a good idea to mention your chest tightness. I'll be keeping you in my prayers that the appointment goes well & can give you some relief
Much support
(((((((((hugs))))))))))
Continued support while you challenge your own, muji. Definitely mention the chest pressure.
It worked. I did what lilmiss said when they stuck me to draw blood. It wasn't so much the needle stick that I had to concentrate through, it's that they had to take 6 vials of blood for all of the different tests for Friday. So that helped me hang in there.
Donna, I wrote down some notes as you said. I also wrote down my kidney doc's contact info to give my primary doc this Friday, because I would like for them to be able to confer about this chest pressure thing. Last week my psychiatrist offered to confer with my kidney doc, so I don't think that's out of line.
Yeah, I know 58 is young for a thing like chest pressure. I've looked into finding a pool I could swim in for exercise, but my Appalachian town doesn't have many swimming pools. Our YMCA has one but it's pretty scheduled up. I did got for a double walk today, though--double meaning I walked twice as far as usual. I thought of you, too, Rizen as I was doing it, too, which was really encouraging.
Thanks, everybody, I got through my visit to the hospital today, so now I've got a couple of days to get ready for the doc appointment Friday.
Support from here always helps when my PTSD anxiety amps up before one of these things. It makes me know I'm not alone. I'm so grateful.
i'll be ahead of time for Friday - get a head start since i'm in california - i'll get ahead by the thursday nite instead of in the morning : ) loads of extra peaceful thoughts for right now too.
