Anxious-doctor's appointment coming
Chronic kidney disease and diabetes have added to my PTSD now in my old age, so I have to have regular CKD and diabetes appointments along with visits to my psychiatrist. I saw my psychiatrist last week, but now I have to see my primary care doc for the first time in 6 months on Friday.
I don't know if I'm imagining it, but I've been having a pressure sensation in my chest for the last 2 weeks. Since CKD caused nerve damage in my legs, I barely walk with a cane, much less exercise. So I gained 80 pounds in 4 months and developed an obesity problem, with the blood pressure that goes with it.
I guess I ought to tell him about the chest tightness, then, but I get a little nervous and have a hard time explaining myself. I've got to have blood and urine tested this week for Friday's appointment. It triggers my PTSD to be handled that way, so I'm not really good at going through that.
You'd think I'd be cool with all of this, since before my health broke I worked at a hospital daily as a hospital chaplain. But even if it seems hypocritical, it's different when you're the patient yourself.
I'm anxious about it, I'll admit. As always, any support is appreciated.

It's been some time since my last post...sorry. I've been going through a challenging time with the sale of my home, purchase of a condo and my adult asperger son that lives with me. I've had days where I couldn't get out of bed, days where I stayed in my pj's and days where all I managed to do was eat, drink fluids and take care of my Sweet Mia kitty. Sweet Mia came to me from a shelter about...

If I come to DS and it won't do anything when I click "Login", I go to a post, click and then click "Leave a Reply". Then it will let me log in.Of course, sometimes DS just goes to "Error 504". Then I can't log in.

I made notes for my appointment like you suggested, and followed through with them. The doc gave me a high dosage of neurontin (gabapentin) so maybe my nerves in my feet won't crackle with pain like they do. That way walking helps keep weight stable and it's just good for the mind to get out and about even just strolling on my cane. Neurontin has side effects like meds always do "if you have suicidal thoughts, blah blah" is always on those prescription labels isn't it? It's almost amusing.
The big good news is that my doctor said my heart is ok. The tightness in my chest has just been stress--another reason I need to go for walks. Fingers crossed that the high dosage of neurontin will calm the nerve damage in my feet.
Good news, too, is that my blood pressure is normal. More good news is that my keeping to my hospital nutritionist's diet has my diabetes stable and my kidney level stable, so I stay on the edge of dialysis but don't need it in the next four months. We'll see again in September about that. I am so relieved!
I still want to see about losing weight, so I had the doc call my kidney doc about getting me into bariatric surgery. My worry about my heart is from carrying too much weight. I'm so glad my heart still is in good shape, I just would like to keep it ok for the long haul.
I'm glad you all helped me muster up the pluck to take my notes in to my doc and ask him all of my questions and even ask him to make that phone call for me. PTSD responses are the 3 F's, fight/fight/freeze, and I tend to freeze at the doctor's office.
It took a lot of energy to maintain and keep to my script to voice everything I needed to say and to ask for, so I was really tired afterward, so that's why you didn't hear from me right away. But I was tired and relieved. Tomorrow I speak at a church, so today I'm trying to recoup my stamina for that.
Thanks for the encouragement that gave me the oomph I needed to take advantage of my doctor's appointment and get everything out of it I could. Your support improves my life, and I'm grateful. That song "Lean on Me" was so sweet.
