Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
can help you get to that day
sooner than later.
"make" you feel loved.
A good therapist,
counselor, coach
or other person who
has a background in
recovery from abuse
can help guide you
and support you in
loving YOURSELF.
unless we have
extraordinary parents.
That's why it's so
beneficial to work
with a qualified clinician.
We wouldn't be able
to set our own broken
leg, would we? We'd
go to a doctor.
Same thing.
Your parents didn't
parent you well.
The good news now,
though, is that you're
not a little kid anymore.
You've recently become
a legal adult. So now,
as you grow into this
new stage in your life,
you will eventually grow
into the responsibilities
of this new stage in your
life. You don't have to
get there alone. Talking
with a qualified professional
would help a lot, in supporting
you to get there.
When you do that
(probably not before). . . .
you'll be in a position
to be able to help
your younger siblings.
Please take
very good care
of yourself!
as you live your life.
If you were my client
or my sister, I would
tell you that once you
are out on your own,
cutting off about 85%
of communication
between you and
your parents would
be just about right.
See. . . . . you're
pretty darn smart,
already!
Neglect is abuse
and abuse is a
betrayal. Other
distinctions are
virtually insignificant.
How I know that
your parents have
abused you is from
what you've shared
with us about their
actions as parents.
on what I've read in the
original thread and
subsequent responses.
I've read that there have
been many instances of
reprehensible abuse on
the part of (at least), your
mother.
My clinical background is
in a therpeutic "school"
called Family Systems
therapy, which says,
fundamentally, that
no one person in a
family scenario is
either totally responsible
or totally outside of
whatever is going on.
The concept proposes
that everyone's action
is tied up with everyone
else in the family. (That's
where the "system" comes in.)
Without you being an
actual client of mine,
I'm not in a position to
make official diagnoses,
except to repeat what I
wrote just above. . . . .
that from what you've
shared, the family
system of your family-
of-origin is one that
consists of serious
dysfunction and
possibly unsafe
conditions (in legalize,
the issues with your
mother and baby sister
might be called reckless
endangerment). You
haven't spent a lot of
time talking about
your father, but as I
explained when I was
talking about family
systems, no one in
the system is either
totally responsible
or totally disconnected.
Is there neglect? I'd
put money on the answer
to that being yes. And. . .
by the way. . . . neglect
IS abuse.
Abuse within any family-of-
origin and any family system . . . .
sucks.
Are you still confused?
If so, tell me exactly
what you're confused
about.
