I have been married to my husband for 13 years now, I was diagnosed with MS in Feb of 2010, my biggest fear, My father had MS and passed from complications shortly before my 12th birthday. I am still working full day and have only recently had a major relapse. I think it scared my husband quite badly, he has been very distant. He has always said that he will not leave me, with everything that we have been through, he says that we will survive this as well. Our Daughter is autistic and after a difficult pregnancy, after years of test we finally got the diagnoses two years ago, she is 11 and in a special needs school. We also had my narcissistic mother stay with us for six years, that was a big strain on our relationship, I truly thought that MS would not be as bad.
He is always willing to help others as well, doing charity work etc. The problem is though that when I ask for help or for him to do something, I am always the last on his list. I am constantly picking up after him and our daughter, he says I must stop fussing, but I have an Obsessive Compulsive Personality and it has been a huge adjustment on my part to accept that he is not always tidy, both him and our daughter are also ADHD.
Now it is becoming an issue, I don't have the energy to keep on doing this, I still work a full day and go home and cook, I can't still pick up and clean up after them. It is not that I am asking a lot, just picking up his clothes and putting it in the washing basket, or pick up the papers that our daughter has left all over the house. To throw away empty packets, not leaving them on the table. I feel like am losing a battle.
I want to create a sanctuary for me outside, his words are, "you are always complaining you are tired, now you want to do this" Well, I am tired of always coming home to a messy house, I never relax, something he points out, but does not help with. I know he helps with packing lunch in the morning, but it feels like I am now being resented because I have given that responsibility over to him. I feel like all I am is a tool for him to use when he needs me and then put me back in the toolbox. I don't have any friends outside of our relationship, but I don't begrudge him going to a movie with his friends if he want's.
I am losing who I am, I can no longer walk without a cane outside home, as I am scared I will fall. I have had a constant back spasm for the past four months, I am finally going for acupuncture tomorrow, I asked him to rub peppermint on my back to just have some relief, he said he would do it after I sorted out his eyebrows, but basically went straight to bed afterward.
I am tired of asking for help, I am tired of asking for them to pick up their stuff, I am tired of asking for assistance with anything.
I am at the point where I have asked my psychologist to see if I cannot be medically boarded after next year February, I don't qualify for medical boarding for MS as my EDSS score is to low.
I feel like an empty shell, tired of asking for some company, he is always on his cell phone, reading, or watching TV.. I feel lost and I am tired of asking

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Gentle hugs, Linda
Your frustration is understandable as I think we all could use more attention on our needs and do the things that are helpful to our health and well being.
It sounds like you have been very brave and very strong through everything so far. Can you afford to hire maid service to tidy up around the house? Do your husband and daughter go to therapy with you? I think it would be a great help for them to learn some behavior modification. Cleaning up after themselves sounds like a great first step to me. Your daughter will be better off for learning how to do a few things too.
Can you go for a massage or some physical therapy? Just getting out and being around people will be so beneficial if you can. It really sounds like you could use a support network. You can't keep being everyone else's support and not have the same for you.
Hope you get some relief.
i know exactly how you feel. for a longtimei havebeentellingmy family that they take me for granted and i feel just like another household appliance, they even nicknamed me Mrs wishywashy! so recently i made a decision that i refuse to do anything barr packing the dishwasher and even get to the point where i will eat peanut butter sandwiches rather than cook if i have to cook too many days in a row so when they say whats for dinner i reply peanut butter sandwiches unless YOU want to cook something and evrything else we do together on the weekend. it took me ages to be ok with the mess but i figure i deserve a rest too. its amazing how quick they oick up the slack
Thank you for your comments, there is no support groups in the area I live, I actually asked the chiro that I saw this weekend how many patients she has with MS and does she think they would be interested in getting together just to chat. Seeing her again on Thursday. I would be nice to talk to people who understand.
I have been pulling in the reigns on my daughter as much as I can, she does need to learn that it is not OK that her or daddy leave everything lying around. Hubby on the other hand seems oblivious, I have actually spoken to my mother in law and all she says is that he has always lived in his own little world. Well awesome!!!
I did some gardening this weekend and he helped with this at least, I pointed out the bricks that I was worried I would fall over and would he mind burying them deeper, he said no, that the concrete (almost non existent) would make it impossible. Murphey's law, I was walking with a plant i my hands and fell over the same bloody bricks. Now sporting two bruises on my left leg and his comment was that I knew they where there and should have watched out. What part of being unstable do people not understand.
Anyway, seem to be on the same train of thought again:-(
Need to see if I can afford a cleaning service twice a week, I have a lady coming in on Tuesday's, but the house is such a mess that all she does is the bare minimum and the ironing.
HUGS to everyone.
I would also suggest a cleaner. Once I have most of our boxes unpacked from our move, I will get one to do at least a quick once-over every week. Also a dishwasher.
My husband was becoming increasingly less helpful, and his meals were less and less edible (before he finally got hit by that car, now I am stuck with everything) and he was ignoring my gluten-free diet (but not telling me) now at least my allergic reactions have almost completely gone
