i like to see vaccines or medications out on the market for a couple of years so i can better access the side effects they cause. so no i won't be trying the new one and my nurse told me several years ago that the flu vaccine atrofys the muscles and with ms your muscles are already atrofyed so it wasn't advisable if you have ms unless your high risk to get the flu. i make sure i'm not in a high risk situation and take precautions to prevent any risk. so i avoid the vaccines, but take all necessary precautions. i also try to avoid increasing profits for the drug companies in most situations. but thats probably just me!

My thoughts exactly. Back in the 70s there was a Swine Flu scare that never happened. Nobody died from the swine flu but 25 people were killed by the vaccine and hundreds more got an MS like auto-immune reaction that they had to live with for the rest of their lives.....just like before, the vaccine was rushed through for fast track to approval...

Having gotten the swine flu.....yes it sucks. You will hurt, you will cough, and if you get a more aggressive strain you may need acute treatment for breathing difficulty....I didnt get that part. I was sick for a few days, messed up my last week of a summer class....but if you dont have any really pressing responsibilities, its really not the end of the world. It wasnt any worse than the regular flu on a bad year.

I dont want to be a guinea pig for this vaccine.


The other issue I have with all of these vaccines is that they are still using a mercury based preservative. There is an ongoing debate about whether mercury can make MS worse. The MS society tends to take a very conservative approach when it comes to dealing with new information, but many doctors believe that the mercury based preservative should be removed from all vaccines and that people with MS should especially avoid them and get the childrens vaccines that do not contain it.

Its still just a theory and so far the link is unproven, but I dont want to take a chance. The human body has no need for mercury.

I work in a doctors office, doing coding and billing. It's a small office so when one person gets sick usually everyone gets it, even with all the precautions. anyway It is mandatory we get the flu shot and I have had them in the past and no reactions, but this swine flu vaccine scares me and I hope they don't make it mandatory. because I really like my job. Maybe I can get something from my neurologists saying I don't have to. we have had a couple positive cases already come through our clinic for the swine flu.

In 1985 after the birth of my third child I got the flu it did such a number with my MS I decided from that date on to get a flu shot and never regretted it since. My doctor highly recommended that I get the Swine Flu Vaccine. I need all the help I can get to protect me from catching anything. Sure wish they would have a shot for colds and stomach flu these sicknesses affect my ms so.

the way the flu shots are normally given is for those with lowered immune systems. My son a severe asthmatic is an automatic flu shot recipient. So i would say if you are worried about your immune system don't take any chances we are getting ours. hope all stay well this year. tloree

My daughter and I contracted the Swine Flu while on our anual vacation to Disney World! We had to extend our stay for 5 extra days! We were quaranteed(sp?). My daughter was the worst. Poor thing had it all, and it took a while to get her back and running again!

I don't plan on taking one - after reading that a large percentage of MS'ers had the measles antibodies in their spinal fluid, I'm not convinced we ever needed that one either. against this procedure. Talks about
long term neurological risks & says that since we now have antibiotics & or IV fluids if necessary, the flu shot is just not needed. Risks associated with preservatives

Did it once ten years ago & felt poorly for days. I will never do it again.

No way for me- I will take my chances- I am fairly sure you are receiving a live vaccine which I am not comfortable with- there is so much evidence that vaccines have effects on our body-more than what they have been given for.

Is there a link to Autism as they are saying in our children? I don't know but I do know my sister vaccinates her son homeopathicly and so far he has been fine.

Well, it depends on your immune system. Mine is quite unusually strong (that strength causes a lot of health problems, though), and I've never even been able to catch normal flu. Also, the swine flu is -less- deadly than the normal flu, so keep that in mind.

Also, if your immune system is good, remember that these shots are really mainly for those with weak immune systems such as elderly people.

I've never taken any flu shot or any vaccine purposely (there are those forced ones when you're a kid, but nowadays I never get any, for sort of silly reasons).

Well I have ms and I am diabetic also. I assume my immune system is fair. I am not experiencing any ms symptoms, I have never had a flair since my inital diagnosis and I am not on any of the ABC drugs, I just take insulin and metformin for my diabetes. I see today that the initial vaccine for swine flu will be nasal spray- INTERESTING.

my neuro said no at this time he wants to do some more checking on this

my regular doctor said that its not necessary for me to get the normal flu shot because it can bring on ms flair ups but i have yet to ask her about the swine flu shot

My Neuro, who is an MS specialist will not let his MS patients have any flu shots. He has been an MS specialist for 20+ years and is very good. I also asked my Naturapath, who is also an MD and he does not believe in flu shots either. The last time that I had a flu shot was the year before I was diagnosed. And I still got the flu that year. Sometimes I wonder if there was a connection? I also will not let my 2 sons have the shot.
