So sorry you're having this. I've never had thigh pain except some pins and needles feeling before my DX. My big problem was the charley horse pain in the calves that also hit like a bolt of lightening. I haven't needed baclofen for years and years though since I take magnesium and do stretching exercises.

Hope your neuro an shed some light on this and maybe even set you up with some physical therapy to help. Good luck with that appointment.

So sorry for your pain. I was just R'd on Friday with Trigeminal Neuralgia which I'e learned is another thing that can happen with MS, Very painful sharp pain on the right side of my neck going up to the ear, Dr. has put me on Tegretol, 200mg every 12 hours. would not wish this pain on anyone.

I'm so sorry about this pain. I had something very similar about 5 years ago. I could hold it together during work, a teacher, but soon after I got home all I could do was cry in pain. My Neurologist prescribed Dugagesic Patch.(Fentemal Patch) It's a pain patch simply for nerve pain. It is also a neurotic, which I wasn't happy about but it took the pain away. Last August, 1 yr ago, I started eating 100% Gluten-Free and I haven't needed the patch since. I still eat dairy and a little sugar. A friend had been telling me for a year to try Gluten-Free for the pain. At the time I just didn't believe that it would help, but it did 100%.

I already take magnesium and am gluten and dairy free. I can't take the "good" pain meds because I'm allergic to morphine and codeine.

I'm sorry to hear that, Linda. I'm allergic to codeine too. Wish I knew of something you could try. I'm putting a lot of faith in the Wahls Paleo Plus protocol. I've added iodine to my daily supplements too. If I get some noticeable results, I'll definitely share them on the MS thread, that's for sure. (I'm tempted to try colloidal silver but not until I discuss it with my naturopath.)

I hope your neuro will have some good suggestions.

I too, am following the Wahl's Protocol. Have been for almost a year now. This new symptom hit me out of the blue. I hope it's more MS nonsense and not something much worse.

Sorry to hear about your neuropathic pain. Due to your medication allergies, you can check with your neuro for Tramadol/Ultram and in additon to Neurotin. I'm wishing you pain free very soon because I know how this feels and I wouldn't wish this kind of misery on my worst enemy..( maybe..laughing). Hugs to you :)

I take naproxen(aleve). And find that when I am in pain sleep helps the best. Or anything to distract myself like playing games on facebook, etc.

Thanks docruth, but since I have leaky gut, I can't take Naproxen, or any of the nsaids. I go to see my new Neuro on Friday, hopefully, he will have some answers for me.

I thought for a long time maybe I'm the only person who feels this?? Ive yet to be diagnosed as of yet but suffer right along with the next guy if not as bad worse,for 13 yrs now.Yeah I'm one of the horror story's that has lingered....

I've not so much had this same pain in my thigh but " jolts of electricity" is surely what it feels like. The worst is in the middle of my stomach! I also get smaller ones in my legs,calves,wrist,arms and my face. I've not had them for 6 mths or better now.They had been a problem though for yrs and started about 2 yrs after the onset of the all my problems.No fix for this one that I've found other then to tough them out. Sorry I couldn't be more help! Good Luck ....

I went to the neuro yesterday and because the pain feels like it is in the bone, he has his doubts as to it being caused by the MS. He took X-rays of my hip and femur and is scheduling me for a bone scan. I guess I will be meeting my $3500 insurance deductible.

I am sorry you are experiencing this but I too have had pain like this that takes my breath away. It usually occurs in my left thigh/hip and often in both heels. It is very irritating and is somewhat relieved by Gabapentin and Vicodin as well as deep breathing. You might be having spasms of the blood vessels if not muscles. You might try both ice or heat...some people find relief with one or the other...we are all so different in how we respond to this "nerve" pain (as most docs will call it) but I have my suspicion it might be blood vessel spasms as well as muscle spasms we get. If your not on Gabapentin ask your neuro doc about it as it might help. When mine gets bad I will often go for a short walk or rub my thigh-the stimulation sometimes helps. Daily stretches have helped keep me a bit more limber and I learned those from my husband who had back problems. We do them every morning before leaving bed. Good luck & I hope you get relief.

No lighting bolt pain in my thigh but I do get it in my chest and most recently in my ribs and torso. Makes me gasp, scream, and is unbelievable pain. No suggestion for pain relief as I have yet to find any.

Finally got the X-ray results, just mild arthritis, so no cancer in the bone. Whew! Had me worried. I guess it's just the MonSter letting me know it's there just in case I should forget. As if!
