Since my diagnosis, I've noticed that I bruise very easily, the bruises are rather large and remain for up to two weeks. I wrote on this topic earlier. Additionally, I've also noticed that any mosquito bites I got this summer have left scars. My legs look horrible! Marks all over them from bug bites (all bites accumulated over the summer months), some bruises, and blotchiness. I thought that I was the only one really aware of the blotchiness until two family members asked what in the world was wrong with my legs?! The blotchiness is such that it is like you can see every vein in my legs.
Besides the scarring and bruising, I currently have a pretty good sized 'egg' on my shin--from a bite perhaps? I have no idea. I get bruises often and often I have no idea how/why I got them. Can anyone relate to this change in skin condition? I don't want to continue to gets scars on my legs (and arms as well).

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

the blotchiness i still get though....

I do break out in a skin rash, but I think thats because I'm allergic to certain things like Red dye 40 and vanilla extract. I get itchy on the palms of my hands and feet.
I think it's so easy for us (and for our neuros) to blame every sx we experience on our MS. Problem with this is that some sx that could be treated will go untreated.

I have found that selenium can be good for the skin and scalp. Make sure to eat leafy vegs for the vitamin K, and grapeseed extract is good for the bruising too. Mederma can help with the scars, it really does work. I use aquaphor for general skin protection and Neutrogena sesame oil also.
I have always had bad skin, so I use a good soap like Aveeno or Cetaphil.
Good luck
I don't focus on my bruises as much as my partner does as he is afraid of being accused of abuse. PLAEEZZEEE--I'm a redhead; just try it buddy... I'm just a klutz myself! xo Cj
Anyway, she ordered some bloodwork to check for anemia, Vitamin B deficiency, etc. It will be a couple of days before the tests come back--they have to be sent off.
