Since my diagnosis, I've noticed that I bruise very easily, the bruises are rather large and remain for up to two weeks. I wrote on this topic earlier. Additionally, I've also noticed that any mosquito bites I got this summer have left scars. My legs look horrible! Marks all over them from bug bites (all bites accumulated over the summer months), some bruises, and blotchiness. I thought that I was the only one really aware of the blotchiness until two family members asked what in the world was wrong with my legs?! The blotchiness is such that it is like you can see every vein in my legs.

Besides the scarring and bruising, I currently have a pretty good sized 'egg' on my shin--from a bite perhaps? I have no idea. I get bruises often and often I have no idea how/why I got them. Can anyone relate to this change in skin condition? I don't want to continue to gets scars on my legs (and arms as well).

First bruise approx 4-5" in diameter. Woke one morning to find it. Deep in color and so far lasting 5 days. On no medication and recent blood tests were entirely within normal limits. Consequently, as a default, have to attribute it to MS.

It's strange, but since I posted this, I have had almost no bruising whatsoever. The strange blotches on my arms and thighs where I get the Avonex continue, however. I did have blood work done, too, and all was normal, thank goodness. Now just to get over this pneumonia/bronchitis! LOL

Oh my...I wish I had seen this way back when. I have been alarmed by the amount of bruising on my body. I just assumed, at first, it was more noticable because I haven't been in the sun for a while and I'm much paler than ever before, but that didn't account for the number and size of bruises. Also the time before they faded. My legs and hips mostly...as that's the height of every table and doorknob in my house. But also in places I swear I never bumped. I also have cuts and scratches that scar...there is no reason they should. I was worried there was something else wrong with me. Now I'm babbling. Thanks.

OK, I have a new mystery bruise on my leg wrist, underside... Someone mentioned sleepwalking, and I know I do that for sure! Then, of course, this summer there was my "new" tractor... I really had so many bruises on my thighs, I was embarassed to wear short in public! except to my MS support group that is!

Oh, well, this may not be helpful to anyone, but I guess it illustrates that we are all in the same boat! xo Cj

I bruise all the time and now I am going to try taking the B-12. When I was on a clinical trial I had none of the bruising and never felt better. I know that the drug is approved for RA but will not have approval for MS for 4 more years. I was not allowed to know the name of the drug and I want it badly. Nothing else has worked.

In reading over the comments to this post I just realized that I haven't had a lot of bruising lately--quite possibly due to B-12. I wonder if when I haven't taken B-12 that is when the bruising occurred. Hmmm.....

I just felt a bite on my leg and looked down to discover a tick. Not uncommon this time of the year, but I've never felt one bite before. This tick was narrower and smaller than the kind I'm used to seeing--possibly a deer tick. Oh, I hope it wasn't, but if it was I hope that it didn't carry Lyme! That's all I'd need!

I have noticed the same thing. Bruises popping up everywhere. I personally don't think it's from any medications however as I have yet to start treatment. I think it has some to do with the disease itself and how it changes your chemical make up or internal chemistry if you know what I mean. We'll see what happens when I start treatment in August.

I don't bruise as easily this year as when I wrote the post. I do scar, however! My arms are full of small scars from mosquito bites from this year and last summer. I'm using a scar ointment to try to get rid of the scars, but so far, it's really not helping. Anyone have ideas as to how to get rid of scars? Vitamin E didn't help either. My legs and arms are so ugly because of mosquito bites from weeks or months ago.

Have any of you had
a.)Comprehensive Metabolic Panel - gives you vitamin levels in the serum or bloodlevel
b.)Methyl Malic acid and Homocysteine level (B12 in cell)
c.) 125 hydroxvitamin D
d.) CBC or Full blood Count one of the things it measures is MCV (corpusule volume). If it is much more than 90 can indicate B12 deficiency IF it is much less than 90 can mean Iron deficiency.

I wonder what your iron and vit K levels are. Even if you have MS it doesn't mean you don't have blood issues too that need to be addressed.

I had blood drawn a couple of months ago and what for, I have no idea. I asked about it at my last visit a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have and info/results in my file, great! So that's when they drew some more, took the 4 times to get a vein, so alas I ended up with 4 bruises, they were pretty too let me tell ya.

Those finally went away earlier this week but then I had to have another MRI this past Friday with the dye which I hate because it either gives me a wicked bad headache or makes me vomit. Anyway, took them 2 times to get the vein so now it's Sunday morning, not even a full 48 hours after and I have 2 big bruises on both of my hands.

I plan on asking about the blood work at my next visit.

I'm still bruising. Every injection site has a tiny bruise. Seems as though the longer this goes on my arms and upper thighs will just look like one big bruise.

I went to the doc 2 weeks ago, the blood tests all came back normal. So still no reason or idea as to why the bruises are occurring.
