I am presently taking 250 mg of Effexor for depression. I am not feeling much better. Are there any suggestions for a good antidepressent without any weight gain.

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I heard Cymbalta really perks ya up, my damn shrink wont give it to me...he says "I'm the shrink here...I asked "Are you sure"????
some dr's overload you with med's,some don't want to consider changes.or consider changing the ones you're taking that can be driving you up the wall with side effect's.
the whole key is to find the right one for you.which is not always easy to do.my current doctor of 5 yrs.is very strick on med's.when we started out he kept asking me have you ever tried this one or that one.sometimes if a primary family member has symptom's close to your's,that med might work.
believe me i'm not trying to be a dr.the only thing you can do is be persistant with the physciatrist.it took me 4 month's to get off two that made me horrible.he finally agreed.
i wish you all the best.we don't like to take to many med's,but ya know what if it help's us to function better in daily living,i'm for it.
good luck to all of you!!!!!!!
Talk with your physician about a possible med switch, and be honest about how you're feeling. Consider joining a support group or going into short-term therapy, and above all, don't give up!
