(Husband of 7 years)
So, we got into a big argument and my husband stayed 2 nights away from home. I never look thru his things, call log, etc. Bc I trust him. However, he told me he was going to clear his mind and stay at a hotel for 1 night but after he decided not to home, call, respond to calls the second day i found his location using his computer. He was not at a hotel and yet at an apartment complex. I further looked to see who he'd talked to on the day he went missing and noticed he talked to this person alot. So, I suspected that's who he was with and i was right. When it was time for him to go to work his phone became available again and I called and informed him I knew of his whereabouts and he immediately began to cry and said he was coming home. I began to ask questions who, why, how long, was it physically. He lied about her name, how long (he said 3 weeks based on what i found its been 2 months), and more than likely about it not being physically. (I figured this out by looking up info using the phone number) He said it was solely conversational bc we had not been communicating. He begged and pleaded with me not to leave.
I later asked why he lied he said bc he wanted to fix it and the less I knew the easier it would be to fix everything. Although he says he's sorry for breaking my heart he reminds me that we both have been unhappy for some time which is why he did it and again bc we haven't talked much lately. I agree we both have been unhappy but I've suggested counseling and also always said to divorce me if it ever gets to it point where he feels the need to cheat. We don't have sex as much as he would like due to having small kids and work schedules but at least once a week.
He now gets upset bc I constantly need reassurance and ask the same questions over and over. I don't want details but I do want to make sure he's not in love with the woman or truly had sex with her. What he did is already bad enough bc he definitely developed some type of feelings for her.
Now Idk what to do next. He stated he would do counseling. But I'm still scared it may happen again or I will never be able to trust him again. I don't want to lose my family but I don't want to live with this type of anxiety and fear either. I also keep thinking it would've continued if I never found out.
Bc he didn't come clean and blaming me/us for our issues, do you think he could ever change?
It's only been a week, when am I supposed to just stop talking about it? Bc it's hard to not bring it up.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

It's only been a week. It will take awhile for you to trust him again, if you can at all again. It could take years. So, don't worry that it's only been a week! That is no time at all. He has NO right, or leg to stand on, to tell you when you should feel okay with this again. Your whole world has been shattered, and it was all because of his choices, his actions, his lies.
Too many times, the cheating person *tries* to blame their spouse. I just want you to be confident that this had nothing to do with you at all, or the communication he is saying was lacking, or less sex.... blah blah blah. Not like you were 100% happy with everything either, but you did not go out and cheat.
And remember - cheaters lie. Don't take what he says as truth for right now. He will downplay what happened, he will say anything to get you off his back.
So first things first - he has to cut off ALL contact with this other woman. I am talking NO contact - ever. You will have to confirm that the contact has completely stopped. No excuses from him. No "but we're just friends now.....",. Nope. Nothing. He never talks to, or sees her, ever ever again.
Counseling is a good first step. You will also need individual counseling to help you deal with all of this.
It's going to be a rough time for you right now, and I am so sorry you have to go through this at all.
Start the two counselings, one for the two of you, and a whole separate therapist just for you.
You will be okay, no matter what eventually happens. Keep writing it out here. We are here to support you.
However, I'm still scared. Every second I just want to cry and ask him why or get him to reassure me it's done and won't happen again. And I know I probably need to stop doing that. But it's hard and I'm just really hurting.
I haven't slept this entire week other than napping with my babies. And couple hrs at night. So, I'm miserable, depressed, exhausted, on top of barely eating.
I’m at a point in life where I would never be in an environment like that. If you aren’t happy in a relationship then talk/ get outside help. Never cheat that is a terrible thing for him to do to you. It is not your fault. Ask yourself this question. Are you going to be happy 5 years from now still needing reassurance from him?
No way to live in my book and like California girl said you most likely will never trust him again.
Best of luck to you
