Sandy we can be on the buddy system. Share our ups and downs and confer on the whole process. I like that. Makes it seem a whole lot less scarier when you have someone else to go through it with. Coffee, you bet.

The buddy system sounds great! I had wanted to wait until next year to consider tx, but this sounds too good to pass up. Since I'm cirrhotic, the options have been limited.

yes it appears that ibx is replacing interferon..probably all pill tx...way to go ..u're on u're way to healing.......god bless u

I don't have an opinion either way and don't know what Id do if it were me, but I have what I think is a very valid concern.

Presently the only approved tx for 1A is triple w/Incivek or Victrelis. After you use either one, you can never treat with them again due to resistance issues. So, this makes the trial particularly risky. If one fails the trial there is no other approved tx available; and its really unlikely to get on another trial after having been on one.

That being said, my trial drug 7977 is said to have a high barrier to resistance, i.e. you could re-treat with it again. But no one really knows for sure. That is why I was so concerned about my trial. There is the theoretical possibility that I fail and will forevermore be resistance to ALL types of tx. But I guess that will always be the case with trials. But if I fail I will attempt triple at some point if theres nothing else out there. With this trial that possibility is eliminated.

Kat what is a double blind? I'm assuming open label is just that, you know what the name of whatever is in the bottle, double blind possibly one gets a placebo, the other gets the med and neither the administer nor the recipient knows?
So if my trial fails, I'll never be able to be treated again? Why?

bagplady as far as I know it depends on the drugs being used and if you are exposed to some particular class of drugs and fail treatment, the virus will become resistant to a future attempt with that class of drug. That does not necessarily mean "other classes" of drugs won't work for you. Trials are all about getting the right combinations of drugs that will work. That is why some trials only take treatment naive (virgins) participants.
It is important to know before you start and not after the fact.

I didn't say you'd never be able to treat again. But you will never be able to treat again with Incivek or Victelis and currently those are the only treatments that are approved. You could obviously try just SOC or something new when it comes along.
