Good morning. It's 5 AM. I've been up since 330. one of those fun "vague weird just won't back off fibro" pain things. Nothing worked so I got up, tried heat, ice, gentle stretches, took a short walk (that was fun for anyone watching: sleep-deprived me staggering around the block in my PJs in the pitch dark).... Nada.

Today in 1733, Joseph Priestley invented carbonated (seltzer) water. Why? B/c he could.
Priestley's big claim to fame (other than being a clergyman whose official sect was "Dissenters")? He has a claim to discovering oxygen in its gas state. He also rejected the whole concept of what we cutely call the "chemical revolution", which kinda killed his career in, y'know, chemistry. In his era, the reformulation of ideas of chemicals and so forth was blooming/booming, and becoming something far more precise and far less like Dark Ages alchemy, especially in terminology. Priestley didn't really like that. He stuck to being famous for seltzer water, writing on electricity, and surrendering the pulpit for a more secure (better-paying) living.
Who did profit from the seltzer water thing? JJ Schweppe, as in Schweppe's ginger ale (yep, still that name on the label). He failed utterly at first to market carbonated mineral water as a health tonic, but Erasmus Darwin talked it up and eventually people decided it was great.
Erasmus, btw, was Charles Darwin's grandfather. Other than that, I got nothin'.
In 1894, Montreal and Ottawa battled it out for the first Stanley Cup playoff (hockey).
In 1895, the Lumieres invited a select audience to their first movie, in Paris, France. For those who are utter movie nerds, this is *not* where Disney got the name "Lumiere" for the candlestick in "Beauty and the Beast".... LUmiere is just French for "light". Punny name, like "Cogsworth" for a clock, Mrs. Potts for the teapot, and so forth. The Lumiere brothers, the real-live ones, that is, were noted for being among the first to see the commercial profit potential of the infant cinema industry.

I'nm exhausted. This doxycycline thing has ripped me apart and I'm eating crackers and water. I can't take (anything) or eat (anything) except saltines and toast and maybe unbuttered watery mashed potatoes. Are we sure the cure isn't worse than the possible disease?!?!And a week to go. ***Fun cures that WERE worse than the disease:ARsenic. Popular against STDs, which just compounded misery...
Just came back from my PTSD counselor. I didn't know I had an appt today. When they called me Monday, I mistakenly heard her say 27th when she actually said 22nd. Whoops. Lucky I live right around the corner, was able to show up for the remaining 45 mins. He's a nice guy and seems to sympathize and validate when I'm upset / emotional about something. Ate lunch and will soon head over to the marriage counselor. It's tough having both counselings in one day. I feel mentally depleted by the end of the day. Mom said she's having a bone density test today and is waiting for the transportation services to come for her. One of us may have to pick her up when she's done, we'll see.
