Twenty-five years since 9/11 attacks on the US changed things (or not).
Current NYC Mayor Mamdani has released a shi*-ton of files about the air quality as it was known to be by the Giuliani administration 20-plus years ago. Turns out, yes, they knew it was that toxic. And, since people of all faiths died that day, let's not go into that, please. They were firefighters, bankers, cops, cooks, waiters, administrative assistants, buliding maintenance, desk jockeys and janitors. They were alive. At the Pentagon, btw, they were sailors and soldiers and civilians, and it sucked.
Interesting trivia, or not:
United 93 that went down in Pennsylvania is known for th ewords spoken by one passenger, overheard on a cell call from a passenger to a family member: "Let's roll." What's not as well-known is that he meant "let's roll the beverage cart against the cockpit door so hard that they either take this down or we do." Yes, they charged using the beverage cart as a battering ram. It so flustered the hijackers that the plane went down in southwestern PA instead of DC.
A Korean flight inquired about the hijackings, apparently trying to confirm if the stories were true. It was already being re-directed to Canada as US airspace was closed. Unfortunately, in their message to ATC, they used the HJK that means HIJACK, and it being the day it was, ATC freaked and said to confirm hijacking by turning to squawk 7500 (the "we're hijacked" channel). The Korean pilots misunderstood what ATC wanted ---- and turned to that channel. They thought they were confirming that they'd heard stories of hijacks. ATC thought they'd been hijacked. Those were two very freaked out pilots when they got on th eground.
Materials found in the air that day at either site: pulverized wood, pulverized stone, powdered paper, powdered human ashes, soot from jet fuel, soot from burning building, and that old fave... ASBESTOS. Payments for damage done on that day to people due to the debris, damage often denied or belittled by government agencies, extends till 2090. That is, past the average lifespan of anyone even born that day who inhaled without a mask anywhere near any strike site.
So, as we remember that day (or don't if you're young enough), consider that for those of us old enough, that day brought collecetive trauma, and showed many true colors. I lost a friend who gloated "Now they know what it's like to live in fear" and it waas maybe 10 AM< we had no casualty counts, and I flipped out on the friend saying "HOW CAN YOU?!" and that's the last we spoke. I get it. Childhood abuse marked them. Marked me, too. But I didn't rejoice to see otherse in pain and fear. I threw up.
So maybe that's the real question: Do you gloat to see pain or do you feel sick?

People who were alive during 9/11/2001 have a story of how the attacks on the USA impacted their lives. Feel free to share.....I graduated from law school on Sat, Sep 15, 2001 at age 24. Many families did not attend the graduation ceremony because the airplanes were grounded. I was a law clerk for a certain government agency for two years while in law school and was looking forward to a great...

I had a crazy day yesterday and didn't make it on here. Everything was busy and took several extra unnecessary steps, and by 6 am I was feeling super overwhelmed. Then work was really busy and I brought Miki after to the NH office to try to aspirate her liver, but she wasn't having it. She was flinching when the needle went in and after bending 2 needles with her ab muscles, we called it. It would be good to know, but a cytology may or may not be diagnostic, and really it's not going to change what I do. I'd need to get very invasive to get more info at this point, and since it's just to know where she's at and not to treat or change anything, it's not something I'm going to put her through. Her bloodwork still looks good, and she seems to be feeling well aside from having the cone. She's not thrilled about all the medical care/trips to work lately, but that should be winding down now that we have a plan in place.
Twenty five years ago, I was in my office counting 21K in petty cash. We had just wrapped three film shoots simultaneously. Our secretary called us into the conference room which had a TV. I have no words for what we watched. That night, after securing a rental car (flights were cancelled), we left for New Hampshire/East coast for a long scheduled vacation. It was a very weird vacation. Generally always had one ear glued to a radio. Ended up being able to fly home which was very nerve wracking. It was just unbelievable watching the devastation, learning about the lives lost. And now, all of the people who are living with after effects from that day which the government will not acknowledge. They are criminals to deny these claims.
I worked today which was another chaotic day. I got interrupted by a chatty client who called me to discuss a schedule change. So, I was late to the next stop. It went downhill from there lol.
I'm hoping that tomorrow goes smoothly. I'd like to get back here and be able to just rest.
I hope that everyone has a decent weekend! Waves!
