Hi all!
How are you all?
Quick question. I am going back to the rheumatologist next week. I plan to talking to him too. I am a bit nervous. I have been battling daytime sleepiness for years. It never really did concern me. As of the last month, though, I have been falling asleep while doing normal stuff. I was at a restaurant, with my daughter, last week. We were playing words with friends. I was in the middle of thinking about what word to use, and I FELL ASLEEP, holding the phone. In the middle of a loud restaurant.
I AM FREAKING OUT!
This has been happening to me very often in the last month. I don't understand the dizziness, and the sleepiness that is happening to me. It's not my blood sugar; I'm hypoglycemic. It's not my blood pressure, which went up with the spinal shot steroids. I have no idea what's going on. I am sleeping, not great due to pain, but it's no different than usual.
Does anyone experience this falling asleep while doing stuff? It's really freaky. I've actually been having trouble while driving too. I have to open the windows, and sing, and move, or I'm asleep! What gives!?
Thanks in advance guys!
Hilda

My cat is going on trial for crimes against skink-anity. SIX in six weeks. Three this last week alone. The crack is maybe 1/4 inche wide. Maybe. Skink skitters past, her paw shoots out, her claw hooks in, she yanks, and somehow, having defied physics... WHAM. Skink-o-rama.Now, don't get me wrong, it's nice that she's a pesticidal maniac, but OMG. Skinks do no harm. They don't come inside. WTF.So,...

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Because you are not sleeping well due to your pain issues, it would also be natural for you to fall asleep. I'm not saying that you should not have a sleep study done. You absolutely should have it done. Narcolepsy needs to be ruled out. Some people with Fibromyalgia do have Narcolepsy.
Instead of caffeine, I'd like to suggest that you try small high protein meals spread out through the day. Insist that something be done about your pain levels so that you can sleep. Ask about a medication called Provigil that would help you stay alert while this problem is sorted out. You really should not be driving under these circumstance.
There is a supplement called D Ribose that is helpful for energy. I like a brand called Corvalen which was originally developed for congestive heart failure patients. You can read about it and purchase it online using Google.
It might be helpful for you to purchase a book called "Fibromyalgia for Dummies." It is available online at Amazon. Like all of the dummies series, it contains easy to understand information. It will give you a comprehensive overview of this nasty illness and a lot of ways to manage it. Knowledge is power.
BTW alcohol is proven to interfere with sleep. And, if you are drinking red wine the nitrates may be ratcheting up your pain levels.
Take care Hilda and let us know how you are doing.
I went to the rheumatologist, and he upped my Lyrica. Big surprise there, right? LOL! I am still tired. I pushed too hard on Sunday (4 hours raking leaves), and had to take yesterday off, to sleep all day! Even then, I went to bed early last night, and slept 9 hours. Still tired today!
To Fantod... I am on Atkins... and I don't consume sugary sodas (I have hypoglycemia, and stopped drinking sugar decades ago because of this). Thanks! Of course, then you're in the aspartame trap, too. Which can cause pain, supposedly. I'll look into the supplements. I don't drink wine that often. I get a bottle every 3-6 months. LOL! I did buy a fibromyalgia book.
TibetanT - I will search for info on the pituitary hormonal effects on dopamine receptors. Thanks!
I am going to ask my family dr to order a sleep study... I just have so much going on - it's crazy!
Thanks for all the input, friends!!!!
I am much grateful!
