Don't take it personal as that is how they come across to everyone or at least most of them do. I have yet to see one that showed compassion!

People are clueless, you know. They look at you like you're nuts and why can't you just "hold it together?" Makes you wonder if they've ever been through anything more challenging than a bad hair day.

As for the question "how do we survive until the disability is approved". I had to go to social assistance for financial aid when my disability was revoked and it took me a year of fighting to get it back. Not sure about the US and what is available. I had to pay it all back when I got my back-pay but it would have been impossible without the help. I would have had to go home to my mother.

I am 32, i started trying on my own for disability at 20, when my Doctors made me stop working. At 28 when my husband died i got a lawyer, at 31 3 years to the month later i won SSI at a hearing with a judge that has NEVER granted any SSI OR SSDI that my lawyer has ever seen. I won on the spot no waiting for an answer. He didnt know why they put me thru so much when its obvious i can not work. Both physical and Mental. When i was brutally raped and beaten at 20 my PTSD has been so bad since i still struggle to go in any public place alone, how can anyone expect me to work? And i can hardly walk even on a cane. I wish you good luck what ever you do do NOT give up, i was lucky that my Late husband was an Army veteran i get widows benefits which pays about 50 dollars more than SSI so my SSI i just have for medical at this point.

I've found, generally speaking, it's damn near impossible to make other people understand. And on the whole, most people don't care to. Unfortunately, many of those people are in a social assistance and /or medical profession. Sad, but true. I guess we can only keep trying and hope that someday people in power will be educated.

I got disability , not by proving my fibro which at that point had totally disabled me but by using my back injury. Disability couselors get bonuses for not putting you on disability. Never trust their Doctors. Find a sympathetic private Dr. document a problem then they have to put you on disability. If you have been using perscription pain meds, tell them your addicted. Addicts are automaticly accepted.

State and federal agencies require medical proof to back up what you are saying. If this was not required, few people would be working because they would all be receiving assistance. I'm not saying you are like this, so please don't misunderstand. I;m just trying to explain. If you had any idea the reasons people give for why they can't work when they are applying for assistance, you might understand.

You Cannot be approved for SSDI or SSI if your only impairments is drug addiction. If you tell anyone you are addicted to pain meds, you may well find your self unable to find a dr that will treat you pain because you have said you are an addict.

Some states have welfare, ie state cash assistance if you are disabled, The state criteria is not as strict as SSA's criteria. If your state has this and you apply for it, they will need a copy of your medical records to redermine if you meet their criteria. The amount of money is very, very little.

Being addicted is NOT going to get you disability i have been an alcoholic since i was 20 and it did not even weigh in on me getting SSI. And lying aobut it will just make drs not give you the pain meds you need. NEVER Lie to get help like that! i won state disablity case to get food stamps and Medicaid a year before i won SSI and that weighed in to help.

AngelaJo, you receiving food stamos and Medicaid had nothing to do with you being approved for SSI. Those things have nothing to do with SSA Disability criteria. Even though you didn't meet the financial criteria for SSI, you did meet the medical part and that is why you receive Medicaid.

Camilla2, I have no idea what type of disability you are talking about, but it certainly is Not SSI or SSDI.

I am sure you understand when I say, I worked friday and sat and have been in bed since ugh. Up last evening for about 4 hours, today, up for 1 hour so far, and I feel like a zombie with a headache, pain, and dizziness. Thanks again.
