Hello, good morning, and good night:-) No, seriously, I have no idea what end is up. Turns out this pre-menopause mood swing thing? Even tho' I take meds for PTSD that supposedly work on the hormone moods.... Yeah, no. Chocolate. Lots and lots of it. ANd stay away. And come here. And go to hell. ANd hug me. And that was just in a couple hours. My mom's wasn't this bad, so presumably this is a little genetic gift from Dad's side.
I say all that to warn you that I'm in snark mode, my baseline coping mechanism, so check-in may get a bit odder than usual. Or not. I can't judge. Really, I can't. Chocorgasm required. (Yes, I wrote that.)
Gentlemen, I do apologize. Look at it this way. Now you know what makes women tick, before they go "boom"!

Native Americans introduced English settlers to popped corn, AKA our belvoed popcorn, this date in 1630, according to "the stories". In fact, someone probably knew, but this is what was recorded. People would eat it as a breakfast cereal, with milk. So investigating the history of popped corn, I came across a site that alleged popcorn was known in Asia thousands of years before Europeans reached the Americas. Now, since maize corn didn't go outside the Americas till after the Euro-invasion, along with tomatoes, potatoes, squash varieties, peppers, cocaine, tobacco, cocoa, and more? *Not remotely possible*. "FactMonster" got *such* an e-mail from me.
BTW, you can also pop quinoa (a South American seed, super-healthy stuff, use in place of couscous if you need to avoid pasta/gluten). Not worth it, but you can. Amaranth (another "super-seed" but not that tasty) and wheat also can be popped, or, as it's called, "puffed". Yes, puffed rice and puffed wheat cereals are bred for that fluffy puffy poofy factor. As with corn, special strains do it best. You can try popping everyday corn etc., but your yield is iffy. And there may be techniques invovled besides "expose to sudden extreme heat".
Speak of, out in the US West, certain pine varieties only release their seeds from the cones in extreme heat, as in *forest fires*. So you can get huge stands of that pine where fire has hit, and see almost none where fire hasn't. (Also, you can just toss a cone into a fire to make it open up and get the pine nuts out if you're hungry, but very few pine trees have decent edible nuts, for flavor. Europeans mostly use stone pine (arachaeologists have evidence of those going back about 5,000 years) but in the US, western pines like the Colorado, Mexican, or Nevada soft-shell pine are used for nuts, and in many areas, the right to harvest is reserved for Native American tribes. The so-called single-leaf pinyon (pine) is another variety. Mostly, though, animals are the prime pine nutters.:-) Why mostly out west? Well, in the US East, the forests were dominated historically by hardwoods, white pine (no nut value), and Eastern hemlock (tannery value, long story, bark, tannic acid, leather-making, smelly, ew).
How the eff did I get here from popcorn?! *headdesk*
In 1920, the first dog racing track to use a fake rabbit was opened in California. This of course begs the question: Were they using real bunnies? How? Why? Wouldn't standing at the end of a straight track and y elling 'Bacon!' do the same thing?
Meanwhile, speak of racing, and stupid headlines, this one from 1969: "Woman wins horse race". Errr.... No. Female jockey. On back of horse. OMG. *facepalm* ANyway, had to throw that in there.
And in 1923, the first (successful) farm of chinchillas opened up in California. Chinchillas are rodents from the South American Andes mountains, with fluffy tails like squirrels, but soft, and the long-haired variety particularly (which prefer elevations around a mile high or so, and live in little herds) are used for fur coats and fur stuff and fur in general. No, they don't survive. Sheep are shorn, chinchillas are long-haired squirrel-rats and are killed. Frankly, IMHO, anyone who wants a fur coat should have to raise, kill, skin, and cure the furs themselves. One of our neighbors tried raising a fur-bearing animal. Aside from the stink, the horror show of the cages, and annual bloodshed, it was just lovely. *eyeroll* BTW, no, I don't like raising animals *only* for their skin/fur. Cows get eaten. The hide would go to waste. Nobody eats chinchilla or mink or whatever.
Side note: The recent lifting of a hunting ban on big game and wolves in ALaska's wildlife preserves is aimed at not preserving wildlife, but at fun for hunters, like a certain person who will remain unnamed except as Eric-the-Red-Handed, that miserable bwana-playing safari-taking joy-hunting peice of incompetence.... *seethe* "Here, son, have Alaska for a playground..." Doyou have *any* idea what it took to restore wolf populatoins? What their decimation by humans did to the food chain? Wolves eat mice, rats, rodents, etc, not just "big game" or "livestock" (and in fact, like pumas, prefer small easy prey, thanks, the big stuff can kick and hurt you), and a herd of wolves *will* hunt caribou, but they take down old, sick, ailing, injured, etc., and effectively *cull* the herd like humans do their own da*n livestock! Also, if you pen up livestock, you just duplicated Nature's tar pits, which is called "predator bait". Hello?! Argh! Free-ranging herds are more often victim to a hungry puma (admitted) than to a rampaging wolf pack! ANd they don't kill for fun unlike certain other speices (humans!)....
When cats "play" with their food, btw, they're actually mimicking the hunt all over again, and it causes production of digestive juices that allow them to live on a bones-meat-fur-feather diet. Otherwise, they might not be able to digest as much as they do of their prey.
More side-side-side-way-side note: I also hate the concept of dog fights, cockerel fights, etc., for human amsuement. You want blood and guts to bet on? Get in there naked and bet on yourself. Hmph. *snort tail-lash*

OK< yeah, time for me to go... uh... yeah. SOrry. So, on this day, Mr. Leo gave me chocolate and very carefully backed out of the room....

88FIn 1969 we decided to get married without a big wedding. Most of our friends and family liked large over the top for the time kind of weddings and I did not. First, I didn't see why spending so much money for one day when we have the rest of our lives to live. I have never regretted not having a big formal wedding. Another issue is not liking all the attention. Also, we have gone to big...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

Leo, hormones can be tough, especially at our age. Yeah, guys beware. It's hard to control. Interesting trivia. We grew popcorn when I was a kid. Our kid job was to push all of the corn off the cob. That would really tear up our hands. Still a favorite snack, but now I buy it popped and ready to eat. Much easier on the hands.
My neck is a mess. Well, everything is really. Nasty flare is disrupting my plans. But I'm powering through.
Hello to everyone. I'm off to bible study.
I hate that your flare is disrupting your plans. I am hoping bible study will help make you feel better. I am sure the weather is playing havoc as well. Take care, Bobbii.
I feel like my pelvis is disconnecting from the rest of my body. Thankfully I see the chiro today at 1:30. I am pretty much in sweats at work today. I hate dressing like this but they don't seem to mind and well, I would have rather stayed in bed than come here. Tomorrow I can sleep in. I have an upper endoscopy at noon, so I am working from home until my appointment. No eating or drinking after 8pm tonight. YUCK!
Wishing you all a decent day.
Sorry to hear that you are having a rough go of it this morning. I hope that you get a good choco fix and that it helps lift your spirit. I'm at the other end of the "change" from a male perspective and it's been quite a ride. On the brighter side, she is starting to feel/get kinda better. PLUS, most of my bruises don't show! Great trivia, as always. I have some interesting trail cam pics of wolves that have passed through my yard. As a hunter, I appreciate their skills but resent the competition. :-) They are much better than me at it.
Well, I am on the backside of a flair to end all flairs. More stress: Taking care of LK's mom and some of his stuff that got shipped back from Vegas. For some reason, he had two phones. I took them into the phone place (tech term) to see if they could unlock them, wipe them..whatever for reuse. One of them had a red smear across it...I couldn't help thinking that maybe blood? Gin pointed out that it probably wouldn't be that color anymore...but we cleaned it when we got back home. My sister is very sick, mentally and physically, right now. Hard to deal with her son's passing...she had some kind of physical breakdown and is unable to even get out of a chair without help. So wisely, we went and brought them to the house over the weekend....so now I am taking care of my mom, sister and brother-in-law. Which is pretty impressive for a guy that can just barely take care of himself! ;-) You can see why I have been trying to not type so much lately...sliding further away from my positive vibe promise all the time. Will I be turning orange here soon?? ;-)
ALL THAT BEING SAID: I do feel just a slight touch better, physically, today. Also, will hopefully be seeing my counselor later today. I'll be ok here, just gotta figure junk out.
Hoping everyone has a decent day today,
Kel
Miki, blessings on you, and those carabiners, too....
Bball, ow, I know that feeling. I've also done one upper endo, and I swear, I was so thirsty//hungry I wanted to fall over. They had no trouble getting me to lie still! *zonk*
Rain and wet cats here. It's like a Depression-era soup kitchen, a nice line of cats, evenly spaced, in my yard.... WTH?!
BTW, no, not blood. Probably paint, ketchup, similar. Trust the nerd.
Angela, good for yoU! Don't you cancel, you need the fun!
If I typedo ver anyone else,s orry. I am just... when hormones roll high to one end, I get horrible swelling and pain in the pelvis and it's just impossible to be comfy, or feel "right". Or whatever passes for it.
Seems to be a lot of flaring going on. All the weather changes can be brutal..and we're getting some wild swing here lately. I hope you feel better as the day goes on.
Miki,
I had a Samoyed husky years ago that could break out of anything. I'm talking houses, garages, kennels and even a barn once. A lot of these pups are smart, tough and determined. It sounds like you are doing a great job with her though!
Angela,
It's great that you're getting out but try not to over do it. Have fun!
bbMom,
Sorry to hear about your pelvic pain. Hopefully the chiro will help with that. Mine works wonders sometimes!
Leo,
Great advice for me sis. I have been encouraging her to get up and walk up and down my Moms hallway as much as she can. Gin designed the hallway and doors to be wide in her apartment. Also, the bathroom has a tall toilet with a walk in shower and handicap bars. Gin, as always, was thinking ahead and pretty much built a rehab apartment.
Not even mid-morning and I crashed nad burned. Warm rain today tomorrow, then dropping 20 degrees in temp in 20 hours. ....
I am excited for you Angela. Have fun today.
Procrastination is my name for the day.
I saw an interesting quote on facebook the other day:
"It's not procrastination if you never plan to complete it!" :-) That's kinda where I'm at today!
Last day of 50degree weather here for us. I'm just waiting to get a whiff of some poor skunk that got hit. The ducks are flying around in matting patterns and the geese/swans are back. I trust them more than the weatherfolks.
So I have a question, maybe a million dollar question...here goes. What in the heck is the sciatic nerve for? Can we remove it? Is it like an appendix where it's there but not so needed anymore? The car ride for Ms Izzybutt's big girl surgery did me in. And I happened to take a road with more 'Rough Road' flags than I ever remembered. It was my old short cut between the two interstates as I was driving to get groceries from a store that shops for us (gosh I love that place) and well, those bumps had me wincing in pain.
But I'm happy that Izzbutt is a big girl now.
Leo, LOL I had to giggle at your chocorgasm comment. I use a word here called choreplay. Because there is nothing hotter than hearing my hubster do the dishes for me.
Oh and I tried combining some recipes that would qualify for the chocorgasm. (Made these for Valentine's day) I took a Hershey's chocolate cake recipe (online) and then I added little wads of coconut macaroon fillings to them and frosted them with a marshmallow frosting dipped in chocolate ganache and topped with toasted coconut. I had a bite and looked at my hubster and told him I was done. LOL.
Bobbi, You're a smart girl for buying it already popped! Ouch, that sounds painful cleaning the corn off the cob like that. Have fun at bible study.
Miki, glad your dog wasn't able to escape. Hope the surgery goes well for you.
BBMom, LOL, dreams really are weird sometimes. I had a similar one about Chip and Joanna Gains and was at the Silo's. Hope the chiro appointment treats you well.
MN fibro - I just had an ordeal trying to sell my old iPhone. Lets just say there was a police report and well, I know the phone is gone. I had to just let that stress go, it just wasn't worth the money. And for the record, ebay sucks! They protect buyers but never sellers.
Angela - I hope your fun today exceeds your pain and you enjoy it.
I hope I didn't miss anyone here. It's taken a while to type this as I had a kitty to tend to and well, she does this cute plop over and rub my belly thing and won my attention.
Hope everyone here has a great day today. I've been bitten by the energy bug somehow and I'm going to take advantage of it somehow.
Happy Wednesday!!!
I think it's like lemon ice cream. If you get it right? Yay! If you don't? Yow!
Good vibes to all
