Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried and executed for treason. There went the Hitler-friendly president of France. The war ended in May; he was dead in October. No time for Nuremberg, he was tried in France b ythe French. Merde!


Today in 1954, the French signed a peace treaty with the communist Vietminh and put and end to war in Indochina, for, oh, five seconds. The US was given the region, so to speak, in a staggering display of coloniolism, and that's why we got stuck in Vietnam.


Today in 1984, Ronald Reagan showed a sense of humor but lousy timing when, during a microphone check, he announced live on the radio during his weekly broadcast, "My fellow Americans, I've signed legislation to outlaw Russia forever, bombing begins in five minutes" (I've shortened it to what I remember.) And that was when the panic hit, b/c, hello, you can't say that!

Afternoon Leo...I'm exhausted and over this humidity. Feeling pretty gross after running this morning. Yesterday was busy, and in the afternoon we had a really good client call, hysterical, because her cat was in the ICU, and the doctor at the ER made an insensitive comment about how she should euthanize...this cat has survived FIP, IMHA, aggressive cancer and more and was only 6, and the owner knew it could be a bad outcome but wanted to try to stabilize her-and has enough money to pay for it...the owner's husband passed away 2 years ago and she was his cat. No kids or family nearby. And last week we saw the cat and she looked great, so this came out of nowhere. The owner literally just called to vent because she knew we would listen and she doesn't really have anyone else who understands (which is totally fine, she's very nice and I just felt terrible that she's going through this). While we were talking she got called back to the hospital because the cat wasn't doing well...and luckily she made it in time to say goodbye. But damn...I just feel so sad for her. All of us do. Today I brought Haco in for his dental, and he ended up losing the tooth I could see was damaged, plus 3 others with issues under the gumline or too early to be visible. So it's good I got him in, he'll feel better in a few days. Of course now that he can eat, he's too nervous, and I can't leave food out for him at home (plus he's still a bit drugged so I don't want to just drop him home and leave). Hopefully he'll eat dinner tonight. A day without food won't kill him or anything, but I'd rather see him eat.
And now appointments are starting so I better get off here..
