Residency Restrictions in Pennsylvania

My mind is set on moving to Philly next year. No residency restrictions and then I found the RSOL site for PA and there's a law that will probably pass that puts a 1000 feet restriction. And you know once this starts it goes downhill. I've tried to contact RSOL up there for days now and get no response. I called Senator Boscola's office and left a message last night. One of her assistants called me back today and I told her about the bad points about residency restriction and she told me I'm the first one to contact them about it and told me to send her info on it and she'll speak with the Senator about it. Why is the PA RSOL not contacting them and why don't they get back to me. This is so important. If you live in PA contact your Senator about this. If you need the names and contact info I'd be glad to post it here.
You know that if this 1000 foot passes each municipality will then start instituting 2500 feet restrictions and then NJ and NY will follow. Please get active. This is the time to do it before it's too late.

Thanks Nakohichi and Faeryedark: I will start to make some calls also. One a day or so, right know I am working 70 hours a week just to keep a roof over our head since my husband lost his job 2 years ago. It is sometimes overwhelming when it comes to all of this and working as much as I have to but I will keep fighting. Sometimes I can not believe the nightmare that all of this is!!!! It just makes me so made that a 1min and 42 second video can land my husband on the megan's law for life and all that comes with this!!!!!

Nakohichi, if your son is coming here from FL he will be automatic lifetime on the registry in PA. Reason given is that anyone coming in from out of state carries the same registry length as the state they are moving from. FL put everyone on for life and leaves you on their registry even after you move out of FL.
Even RFSO out of state visitors that follow Florida law and register remain on their registry forever.
What does this all mean? If you move to PA from Florida with a crime that carries a 15 year period in PA ,you are on for life because Florida put you on for life.

Rich - while Florida does leave you on there they do put that you are no longer residing in the state and put the city / state where you currently live. I spoke to a woman in the office where I registered when I lived under the Julia Tuttle, and she told me that after I was no longer required to register in another state where I was living I could contact them and they would remove me. I don't know if that has been tested (I'm sure we've all been told things before that weren't accurate, right?), but that is what I was told. And my registration does say that I no longer live there.

You cannot petition for removal in Florida until you have been on their registry for 20 years. I got this from an attorney that defends many SOs in Florida. He wouldn't even take my money to try and petition.

Pa doesn't have thing where you can petition, do they? I haven't been able to find out. My hubby is on for at least 10 years..but not sure now with the AWA

I know all about Florida and it's lifetime on the list and what happens if we move, but thank you for that. And thank you Terry for that bit. . I've been told that they will review his case and if they feel necessary they will change him from offender to predator. I'm not really worried about that part tho. That's why I decided to not move to Chicago.

I'm concerned with what happens if, even tho he'll have me as his relative, he'll have a full time job waiting, a place to live and I have a therapist.. but they still might decide not to let him move out of Florida or PA can decide not to let him in. I'm holding onto our attorney and keeping my fingers crossed.

Here is something to consider about the Florida registry in terms of them keeping someone on the registry after they have moved to another state and is no longer required by that state to register - since they only get their information from the SOR they would no longer be able to tell the world what city and state you are in after you are off the registry. So the worst case is that your picture remains on their registry but at some point it would have to say location: unknown. :)

Faery(?) under the AWA in PA, everyone currently on the registry will be tiered according to offense. The registry time will be increased to 15, 25 or life.

Terry, Florida never updated my information after I finished my vaca. The location/zip is now gone and all they have is the state listed, PA, if I remember. Also, the picture is old and so am I (HA). Stupid thing is, if you Google my name, full name that is, it is the first thing that pops up. Florida sends their entire registry to Google.

Yeah, i know we took on the whole AWA thing..not sure what tier hubby will be. His is a misdemeanor of indecent assault...and i'm guessing there's no chance of petitioning to be off early

Why is no one fighting the PA AWA? PA, has not money and my husbands PO said they can not keep track of the people they have know and once this go through it will get worse and they are going to loose the people the need to know where they are at. I will never understand all this it makes me very angry!!!!
