Residency Restrictions in Pennsylvania

My mind is set on moving to Philly next year. No residency restrictions and then I found the RSOL site for PA and there's a law that will probably pass that puts a 1000 feet restriction. And you know once this starts it goes downhill. I've tried to contact RSOL up there for days now and get no response. I called Senator Boscola's office and left a message last night. One of her assistants called me back today and I told her about the bad points about residency restriction and she told me I'm the first one to contact them about it and told me to send her info on it and she'll speak with the Senator about it. Why is the PA RSOL not contacting them and why don't they get back to me. This is so important. If you live in PA contact your Senator about this. If you need the names and contact info I'd be glad to post it here.
You know that if this 1000 foot passes each municipality will then start instituting 2500 feet restrictions and then NJ and NY will follow. Please get active. This is the time to do it before it's too late.

I spoke with her assistant Julia Brinjac. Here's her phone # 717-705-6373 and her email jbrinjac@pasenatel.com . She said Boscola is out of town but she'd be happy to talk with her about our issues. She seemed responsive.. altho she said the 1000 feet is not that far. I didn't tell her that's just the beginning. Florida is only 1000 but most cities here are now 2500. There are I think 10 senators sponsoring this.. I'm faxing them all the PAC advisory just put out this Fed on the problems with restrictions. I can get you their info as well.. will take a bit. But I'm the only one who contacted them. Another person would be great. Thanks!

Here's the link to the bill's sponsor.. I'm getting together a packet from my group here, Florida Action Committee and going to send them all more stuff. Thank you faeryedark for helping out. If this goes through then NJ and NY will follow. It's the tri-state area and they all do the same when it comes to legistlation.

Nakohichi: My understand is the PA Supreme Court ruled residencey restrictions are unconstitutional and they can not make this fly. This is what my husbands PO officer also told him, that the restrictions can be on the books but they can inforce it. I will also call the number you listed above and ask some questions.

I spoke to Julia as well. I did not know there were ten senators sponsoring. And yes, she did seem responsive. I hope the senator is as well.

This is a new bill put out in Feb of this year. This will be the one that will replace what they have. Most of the Adam walsh bill is unconstitutional, yet it's being enforeced in PA right now.

Please contact these Senators. Each voice speaks volumns to these people.

Christad5.. Julie told me that all who are there will be grandfathered in so if you're where you will be staying for the rest of your life, you're fine. My son won't be out until Jan '14 so he will have to deal with it. If this goes thru in the next couple of month it take effect 60 days after that.

I would refer them to the State of Kansas who was strongly considering implementing state-wide residency restrictions but instead ended up placing a moratorium banning any municipality from implementing such restrictions. I will try to contact some of the lawmakers who were on the Judiciary Committee that year or just post their contact information here if I can find their names again (it has been 7 years).

Nakohichi: Thanks for the information, it is amazing what they try to push through when you are not looking. I have received no information on this from the PA RSOL and am disapointed about that!!! Thanks for you help and I will also be making a call to Julia as will some friends of mine.

This all started because 1 person complained that there was a sex offender living near a bus stop. that's all it took , t 1person. and I was the first person on this side to contact them. So, each voice is important.
If she tells you 1000 feet isn't far. Tell her that in Florida it's 1000 feet but each city has extended it to 2500 and now most of Florida is filled with people living under brides. It's all about residency restriction.
I find when I don't make it a personal case for my son and I give them statistic they listen better. Then it's about a community of people and not just 1. I thank you ahead for giving her a call.

There is more than just 1 person sponsoring this bill. It would be wise to contact all. I'll put together a list with their phone & fax and post it here sometime tomorrow.

Well, I did make it a bit personal but i also told her that destabilizing families wouldn't be a good thing. I have recruited more people to e-mail and or call. i told my local Circles co-ordinator as well as a pastor of the church we meet at. Both said they understand that to the general public it would sound good on the surface but looking underneath, it's dark and ugly...they are both very interested in throwing in their voices, as their main objective is to stabilize families and help them get off assistance and out of poverty and this would be counterintuitive to that goal.
